I loved Funcoland before they were bought out.
I could spend hours browsing their newspaper-like price list.

The Funcoland I had when I was a kid was terrible. It was run by greasy idiots with ponytails, and they would check us for money everytime we went in, and tell us to get out. Because 4 of every 5 visits, we were just there to play the demo units. But ya can't say I didn't give them any business, because nearly all my NES games were bought there, one at a time, weekly, with my allowance. God I hated that place.grittykitty wrote:don't remember gameco, but i was all about funcoland! i stocked up on nes games, and even bought my first saturn there. i always loved getting the printed lists in the mail too

too bad you had such a sour experience mozgus
funcoland was a great place for me. gamestop really doesn't like the kids that come in to play the demo units. i even grew to dislike those kids myself when i worked at gamestop - we were basically free babysitters.
in houston there used to be this really cool gameshop that dealt with a lot of japanese imports and neo geo, it was called gametronix (they used to advertise in egm back in the early 90's). i would go in to play the games i couldn't afford and this ponytail-guy would always come turn off the console i was playing and take the game out, what an asshole! i wonder if there was something going on with ponytail guys in the video game retail world...

Well we weren't bothering anyone, and we weren't hogging the machines either. Whenever someone asked us if they could play, we got off. I mean, the place had a full dozen demo units running, unlike stores nowadays.grittykitty wrote:too bad you had such a sour experience mozgusfuncoland was a great place for me. gamestop really doesn't like the kids that come in to play the demo units. i even grew to dislike those kids myself when i worked at gamestop - we were basically free babysitters.
