I never had a problem. Gone between my laptop (16:10) -> PC (4:3) -> Laptop (16:10) -> PC (4:3) and it's never not let me change the settings.

Maybe it's a permissions thing?

I didn't think about file permissions. Cant see how they would have been enabled in the first place though. Doesn't matter anymore. I have the game installed properly on both machines. GW is actually the most impressive thing my cheapo laptop runs playable.

It is a very well optimised game indeed. Much more than WoW, but at least WoW is GL and therefore x-platform. GW runs great on practically anything. I even had it running in Windows through Parallels on my Mac.

It was a damn pretty game from the start. My only real complaint is how every single character besides you uses the medium textures. I never understood that. Easiest way to notice is how everyone else's cape is clearly half the resolution of your cape. I wish there was a way to force high textures on everyone.
