Guild Wars Question

Post by SpaceBooger »

I currently have Nightfall installed on my pc, but just ordered the original game. When the original GW arrives do I need to install it or just add the access code?

Installing it will save you from having to wait while the client downloads the new content, but you must add the cdkey regardless. Also worth noting is that unless you make a new character for prophecies, you can only access the prophecies continent by boat after a certain mission on your nightfall campaign. And when you arrive by boat to prophecies, you actually skipped the first couple "countries" if you can call them that.

I have not played nightfall in a while... wasnt too fond of it. But for $5 I thought I would try the original.
So, I should install it then enter the access code and create a new character to start fresh.

Yea just add the access code. Wierd thing is the CD's for Nightfall, Faction, Prophecies are all basically the same. It's the codes that determine what game you get.

Also make sure you "add" the Cd key to your account so you can have all the campaigns in one account. If you make separate accounts you won't be able to travel to the different regions and then your characters won't be able to get items or armor from the different regions.

Just remembered I still have an account with all three main campaigns on it. Complete waste of my money because that game bored the ballz off me. Too bad that money could've gone to games that I actually play :( .

My discs are not the same. I own the prophecies/factions double pack, nightfall by itself, and eye of the north by itself. With each installation off the disc, I see the core Guild War archive file raising in size, and this is before you enter any keys or account information. Each disc does indeed come with the labeled content and it does indeed install it. I don't know who told you otherwise. This saves you a MASSIVE set of load times during the first boot up when you're just running the client without prior installation off discs.

THIS^^^

Unless you want to sit at a loading screen whilst downloading 15367 files at 10KB/s for a few days...

Uber tip of the day:
Once you have installed all of your GW discs. Go to your Guild Wars folder in your Program Files folder and make a backup of your GW.exe and GW.dat files periodically. (my GW.dat file is over 7GB). So when you need to re-install the game you have a relatively up to date GW.dat file and won't have to spend several hours installing and updating the game just to walk out of your current city and face another 25 minutes of loading again.

Only problem is, your personal settings are saved within the dat file. Try copying it to another machine, and everytime you run the game, all the settings will be configured for that first machine "like resolution and such". No matter how many times you try, they dont seem to save on the new system. This was so annoying when I just copying that file to my laptop for a quick install.
