Thanks for the responses,

I figure the 3000 could certainly end up hackable, but I can hack the 2000 model NOW and it may be easier than whatever players will have to do to hack the 3000 model. So I grabbed a PSP 2000. Now, it they had offered more than just a mic spot and a supposedly better looking screen, then I might have opted for a 3000. It seems like Sony half-assed this new version, and it wouldn't surprise me if they only put it out there to stop hackers. Course I could end up kicking myself if they find an easy hack for the 3000 and gamers are enjoying their homebrew on a better screen than me

I don't really care though. I just want to play the games and the 2000's screen doesn't look bad at all. I'm sure it won't be long before Sony pumps out a PSP 4000 or PSP 2 anyway, though I guess that would depend on whether or not they can start making more profits on the PSP, which probably won't happen if a hack is found for the 3000. This could be Sony's last chance. Okay, that's a bit dramatic

This is likely one of the primary motivations for remodeling the PSP. It's no different than Nintendo's changes for the DSi... removing the GBA port cripples the hacks, and while they were at it, they just went ahead and added region coding to their handheld.
DS hacks work through Micro SD cards.

And region coding is ONLY for DSiWare downloadable games, not the standard cartridge based games. You just won't be able to download Jap games from their new download service.

For newcomers or oweners of the 2000 slim model with no interest in the mic or better
screen the 3000 is not worth it, even if you are not going to use homebrew and CFW advantages. I own a phat model and will wait for the CFW to get the 3000 for the new features and the tv out, and keep my old one.
