Re: alcohol/drug stance
I've been drinking for many years. I picked up real ale a couple of years ago and that's all I drink now. However it has kinda widened my palette for stronger things. Now a pint of lager, or that rat's piss that you call beer (AKA Budweiser) is like drinking fizzy pop to me. Doesn't affect me at all.
I realised this the other day at my friends place where I had about 10 pints of lager, wasn't drunk, woke up fine in the morning, went to work, no hangover. If I had done that 2 years ago I would have been nursing a hangover for a day or two.
I have found that I get cravings for alcohol, when i'm out I will drink quote a few strong beers (we're talking over 5% to 7/8%) and not really feel the effect.
It's made me realise how tolerant I am for alcohol. Will I start looking towards stronger things? I just hope I don't have a drinking problem...

Didn't bother reading any of the replys just the first post... so my question is... can't you drink without getting drunk? The way you describe your friends, make them sound retarted to me, if every time they drink they end up drunk. Me and my friends drink at least 2 times a week at bars and clubs but I've only been 2 times drunk (big love dissappointment back then.... man she wasn't worth it) in my entire life. (and the second one was because of bad drinks from a very shady place)

What do you have 2 or 3 drinks and stop?
I'm sure you've only been HAMMERED 2 times. But come on, if you've drank alcohol of any nominal quantity, you've been drunk more then twice.
Or maybe we just have different definitions of the word. I always took 'drunk' to mean the dictionary definition of intoxicated. Which means to be physically or emotionally effected by a consumed substance. I.e., that slight falter in your step, woozy feeling when you stand, or spuratic smile on your face. I'm not throwing mugs across the room and screamin' obscenities at ugly/'pretty' women. But I'm still effected.
oh dear, I just remembered those stoner kids I know that always tried convincing me that marijuana doesn't impair your driving. I always want to punch those people.
@Niode - I know all kinds of people who spat at beer and rave about 'real ale' and the sort. I don't know, the only 'ale' I ever had was my grandfathers ale and the hell if I remember what the hell it was. I personally get the reaction from some people though when I tell them I don't drink beer, "OH, your one of those ale drinkers... ugh"
::scratches head::
"ummm, no, I'm not." Personally I prefer liquor. I'm a Vodka/Gin kinda man... gentleman's drink I call it. But I always wondered what is up with all the ale!? and especially the strong stigma between those who drink it, and those who don't.
And you won't believe the eyes I get when I say I hate beer. They look at me like I just spat on Christ while he hung from the cross.

First, don't be so judgemental.
Second, since this is a gaming site, THC makes video games better.
Third, I smoke pot and drink coffee every day, and I can assure you that coffee is a much stronger drug.
Fourth, lordofduct, have you tried something good like Bass?
Fifth, I should get to work

Obviosly you're not comfortable with their lifestyle changes. Perhaps its time to associate with different kinds of people. I had similar experiences when I changed my own habits away from substances (for my health, not moral reasons) I was no longer comfortable with it being around.
I don't criticize or judge people for what it is they do with their time, bodies, and money, however I would rather do something different with mine. Stuck with the friends that changed with me, other friends went on with their lives in a different direction.
Life is like that. Doesn't necessarily have to be substances, it could be jobs, lifestyles, marriages, politics religion, lots of things separate people and everyone goes through phases and changes. Get new friends that like shmups. ^.^

I'm in year two at a university. I'm still not a "drinker". I like beer, don't get me wrong, but I hate large groups of people drinking shitty beer simply to become inebriated. So I sit in my room, sipping nicer beer. All alone.

I alienate myself from people who don't respect my views on things like you're contemplating these days. I lost two close friends in high school because they started smoking, I'm asthmatic, and they wouldn't not smoke around me.

Re: alcohol/drug stance
yeah 2-3 drinks usually mate though we don't drink beer, mostly votka for me. And I'm sorry mate but having that fuzzy feeling doesn't make you drunk that's called drinking.
And I like how everyone acts like they didn't know what they were doing. The only thing I can't control when I'm drunk is my body but I knew what I was saying and what I was doing both times.

Yeah, those glasses do look pretty freaking dumb. Maybe not quite Sho'Nuff level, but pretty dumb.
lordofduct wrote:I can't stand it when I hear people talk about how the poor deserve it.
I figure it comes down to individual cases. If somebody's poor but trying to better their economic standing, go for it. If they're doing nothing, not even trying, well... And if they think the rich ought to hand them everything on a platter...well, I think that's just stupid.
lordofduct wrote:I can't stand people who think low taxes and high insurance rates is a-typical of a free market and we should just let it ride.
Yeah, my dad works for the consulting firm Accenture, mostly with health insurance companies. Their big goal is to help these major corporations and not-for-profit insurance organizations drive down costs, which will potentially lead to lower rates.

Yeah...wait, what? Uh...I'm not sure what you mean. Like, if somebody throws a sock on the floor in front of you, something like that? Or like somebody wears socks in front of you? I don't get what you mean...
Sorry, I realize the thread's still about drinking and drug use, but I figured I'd take the time to Lordofduct that some of us didn't think ALL his opinions were weird...just his problem with socks. Heheh
