I'm generally not a big fan of Apple products, be it the IPhone, IPod or Mac's. I don't want to generalize here, but i had mostly bad experiences with Apple products in the past. Especially with the IPod.

Anyways would be nice to hear if MediaMonkey works well in conjunction with the IPod/IPhone.

What I do to shorten the syncing process is make a playlist on itunes and sync only the playlist instead of my whole library. Theres a dropbox on the the bottom that says sync from and then I choose the playlist I want. I hope this helps!
Oh cool, I'll try that.

I think this is user error, rather than iTunes fault.

Syncing a crap load of files is going to take a long time regardless of software. In that particular case you would be better served to just set your iPod to manual sync all music files and then just drag and drop playlists manually.

Hope that helps.

However that said my iTunes library has around 10k files in it and that is also synced to my iPod classic 160Gb and I have no problems syncing it and it only takes a few minutes and that's when there's a lot of new content to add. I am using a mac though...

I too haven't had any problems w/iTunes. It does run slower on my XP PC than my sister's Mac laptop though.
My only grip is the forced upgrades (ex. I have an 8GB gen2 Nano and just to connect my sister-in-law's G3 Nano I had to upgrade) and that you have to download the whole 60MB file just to upgrade... Not like my connection isn't fast enough but it's still annoying.
 (FC, AVFC, NES, SFC x2, SNES, N64, GC x2, Wii x2)*(G&W x7, GB, GBpocket, GBASP, DS-L x2)
(GEN, SS x3, DC x3)*(PCE-Duo)*(Xbox:500GB)*(NGCDZ, NGPC)*(PS1, PStwo, PS3:160GB, PSP.3K)

Oh yeah that is annoying. It's not that bad though. Not in this day and age. Besides if you didn't have a broadband connection I can't see anyone downloading a crap load of music anyway. As for the rip from CD argument. You don't need an internet connection to do that so you can't complain either!

I all around hate apple anyway, but I haven't had the greatest of times using iTunes and I don't even own an iPod! I downloaded it and set up an account so I can legally download songs. Also, its a lot easier to download single songs on iTunes then it is to search for a single song on a torrent site, which a lot of times it wont even have.

My problems are... I hate how the activation works. I can understand that Apple has their rules about the songs you download, but I upgraded my RAM and iTunes activated a second account, then I upgraded my CPU and iTunes activated a third account! Thats really retarded, really. I could understand it activated if I swapped a motherboard, but just add a few RAM sticks at thats does it? Same hard drive and install of Windows along with the same motherboard, why isn't that enough?

So recently I had to reinstall XP, and when I went to download iTunes the website wasn't working. For two days, I think, I wasn't able to download it. Then, after I could finally download iTunes, I go to log in, and I can't. I type in my user name and password and it says "This name has never been associated with an iTunes account before, please fill out this info." So I gotta type in my name and password and all that jazz. Then when I click submit, it tells me, "This name is already associated with an iTunes account. Please use it to log it." Ok, so when I go to log in with the name it tells me, "This user name has never been associated..." An endless loop.

the great thing about winamp is it's ability to adapt through downloadable codecs. try getting a .aac codec and see if that works, I seem to remember having the same problem and that was the fix I needed.

Aside from that, though I have no experience with the program, Try Foobar. My brother uses that and swears by it. It's extremely customizable... which inherently means you'll have to mess around with it a lot until you get your ideal set up, but after that it's supposed to be amazing.

Lastly... as a New Orleanian, I do halfway agree with you. The thing about Gustav's and every other hurricane's media coverage in New Orleans lately is that because our city is essentially a big bowl, and our levees are still fucked... and because everything went to hell last time in a Katrina like circumstance, it makes us a particularly fragile target to any storm... and if it all goes to hell again, they aren't going to pass up that story... and a lot of us would like to know if we can come back home. Otherwise, yes, they should have stopped caring about Gustav as soon as it was a cat 1/2. Ike is looking far more vicious.
Don't that just look oh so tasty?

The only reason I keep iTunes around is to stream to my stereo with an Airport express.

Otherwise I almost exclusively use Foobar.

I've also noticed that iTunes usually sucks the most when it's running on a crappy computer. While I agree that iTunes *shouldn't* have a problem with lower end computers, I can tell you that I don't have any problems on a 3.6 ghz, 2 GB Ram box.

Of course it's gonna take a while... but it shouldn't freeze during the actual drag process.

It's like this (i'm saying all songs just as example, of course syncing would fix this, I don't WANT to sync):

click song1 at top of list,
scroll to bottom of library and hold shift,
click last song in library
drag to iPod,... before I get to even drag 10 pixels FREEZE FREEZE.

Ok, so I create a playlist called "my library", I drop every song into this playlist. It goes fine.
Drag playlist to iPod.
iTunes closes itself and Windows Error say iTunes buggered up and had to be closed.

That doesn't sound like user error... if it's user error because you can't "drag" that many songs at once... that's Apple's error, because other applications I've used worked fine at it (I added all my music to my friends iPod via Winamp, worked great. Took 4 hours to add them all, but the actual getting the transfer started went with out a hitch).

I agree with you on that point. I'll let bygones be bygones if I was on a hunk of junk... but:

Intel Core2Duo E6700 2x2.67ghz
2 GB DDR2
GeForce 7950 GX2 SLI in dual screen 2560x1600 | 1680 X 1050

this should be able to handle "iTunes"

at any other moment it can handle watching a movie or having music on, having Photoshop and Flash CS3 open. Any multiple of my IDEs (visual C#, Flex Builder, Eclipse, etc). Rendering some 3D content I am working on. Notepads and Internet Browsers up the wazoo. Pidgin (duh). etc

I can do all this at once? But if all that's closed except iTunes... I can't do shit?

There is a program called YamiPod that allows you to use your iPod more like an external hard drive. You can access your music library and add and remove songs on any computer. you wouldn't have to use iTunes at all. Just make sure your audio files in the right format, and add to the ipod from Winamp or foobar. Here's the link.
