Skies was actually better than Grandia 2. If you want to play Grandia, you need to play the original, which was better than every Grandia game that came after it

But yeah, Skies is fantastic(and so are the FF games:)

Grandia 1 is better than Grandia 2. Get it if you can.

For me Skies of Arcadia was a mixed bag. It started off rough (and I restarted several times after long breaks from the game) but ended up falling in love with it. The world/characters are great fun. The battle system is a bit slow and generic. Stick with it though, it has a sense of adventure that's lacking in most RPGs.

I liked combat. Nothing revolutionary sure, but sometimes the little things win me over, like seeing your character simulate being in combat even when it wasn't their turn to take an action. I also liked how actions all draw on the same pool, so your party really has to work as a team and decide whose actions should take priority on any given turn.

And of course, ship battles. That was one of the coolest things about the game for me.

Skies of Arcadia is a definite. Go for it.
