Yeah, I did wonder about that as it seems quite odd. I actually have three Dreamcasts (four if you count one with a dead GD drive), so I could test it on one of my other consoles some time.

Yeah, could try it if it doesn't work on my other units. It is out of warranty though (if it ever had one, as I was a Kickstarter backer).

If it's your controller board, here is your answer:

You can try and contact them even if it's out of warranty. Can't hurt.

I'm not sure if it's the controller board. I know that board has a fuse, but if it was blown then no controllers would be working. Still can't hurt to check the Retro Fighters controller on another DC though just to confirm.

That controller board fix from SAG looks awesome though. I just recently picked one up for myself, but haven't installed it yet. I'm just sick of dealing with the clock.

I remember renting the first Tony Hawk on N64. Good times. I know on one of the games there were cheat codes for extra characters like Darth Maul and low-gravity cheats so you could do an insane amount of tricks before landing.

I'm not good at the games at all but I have fond memories of the series. I do want to eventually beat the first game (I'll probably play the PS1 or DC version when I decide to tackle that challenge).

I'd have to recommend the Dreamcast version, despite the crappy D-pad on the Dreamcast controller. Still, the PS1 version really isn't bad. The graphics aren't as nice as the DC version, naturally, but it also has the classic PS1 warping graphics thing.

I've been using Retro Fighter's wired Dreamcast controller, and it works great for THPS, but Reprise said that his stopped working. So YMMV.

I have the "Total Control Plus" PS2 to DC controller adapter, that I got specifically for Tony Hawk LOL. I haven't actually used mine yet, but it got good reviews.

I emulate everything pre-360/PS3, so I can use a controller that isn't problematic.

 Ah! You're all set then.

I watched a 100% playthrough of the DC version of THPS2 which was being emulated, and to be honest if the streamer didn't state it was emulation I wouldn't have known the difference.

I actually prefer the DC controller d-pad to anything else from those two generations. If I use it a lot, the edges start to dig into my thumb a little bit, but the narrow pivot angles on most non-Sega console d-pads feel like trying to get an angle of deflection out of a brick sitting on a nickel. I inevitably end up feeling like I'm applying a great deal of force to use those d-pads, without any real increase in input accuracy, and it wears on my thumb pretty quickly. /unpopular-opinion

Is Matt Hoffman 1 worth playing today? I know it uses the THPS1 engine. I've heard that the sequel wasn't very good.
Both games a really clunky compared to the THPS. I still think they are worth playing because I love the gameplay loop, but the first does not control as well as the first THPS. You spend far more time, trying to just get to locations than you do with the THPS series. I think they are miss-able myself.
Disney Extremem Sake sounds interesting. Is it worth checking out?
It feels and plays like surreal Disney branded DLC for THPS4. Plays at 720P beautifully on the oXbox. It is easier than the main game, which itself is fairly easy. Worth checking out.
Is the Skate series worth checking out for a fan of the classic Tony Hawk games?
They are different games all together. Tony Hawk is manic arcade magic. Skate is far slower and more methodical, it captures the feeling of trying to land a trick in real life far better, not making it for ages, then landing it. The twin stick control takes a minute to get use it, but because it is so different to THPS, the muscle memory does not get in the way. I couldn't recommend it enough if the idea of THPS with more control with tricks appeals to you.

Give aggressive inline a look on youtube and see if it appeals. I got it again not too long ago to play again but have not had a chance, but really enjoyed it when the Xbox was current. It was made by ZAxis who made the Dave Mirra games, but does not control like them. It does the hold X to speed up / jump, Triangle to Girnd, etc.

I never knew that! I really like Aggressive Inline, but I could never get into the first Dave Mirra (that's the only one I played). It felt really clunky and hard to play. Should I give the Dave Mirra games another chance?

What about BMX XXX? Is that one any good?
