I also hate when devs add false length by forcing you to backtrack repeatedly and do numerous fetch quests.

Some boss rushes are just lazy.
Like, when they stick one into an RPG but you're super leveled up so all the bosses are now just piss easy and you're just slamming the A button waiting until the "real" boss shows him or herself...
I think Shovel Knight did the boss run thing correctly.
