I think the Genesis is great for Rock-n-roll music because it makes great electric guitar and snare sounds.

SNES guitar always sounds horrible to me. I think the NES is the best rock n' roll console, because so many of the compositions were created by in-house bands and play to lead, harmony/counter melody, bass, percussion.

It would of been great to see the same poll in the early 90's, unfortunately we had no internet then! During that time my school had a huge divide between the two groups of Heavy metal fans and Rave fans. Back then we did a similar poll in my class, what we discovered in the Genesis/Megadrive owners were the rockers and the SNES owners were the ravers. The other interesting thing is many of those same friends I had are now either playstation or Xbox, the ravers chose PS and the rockers chose Xbox, which is another debate but it makes me wonder why this divide occurs on a console that has practically the same game library.Tanooki wrote:Beat me to it. I don't think of the Genesis as a 'rocker' box if we're sticking within the choice of rock and rave on this post. The Gen/MD is very harsh electronic sounding, tinny, metallic, like you'd expect with techno and stuff with a rave. The SNES if you check the games it has it has more of a smoother rock beat to it with the sampled instruments and the rest it has when you listen to its tunes. Tunes born more on the SNES and over to Gen (or gen and properly resampled on SNES) have more boom while the Gen is more muted/flat as it isn't its forte as much.alienjesus wrote: I feel like you have the consoles mixed up personally.
I associate the SNES more with rocky soundtracks on games like Mega Man X and Unirally, and the Mega Drive with eloctronic soundtracks like in Streets of Rage.
I clicked rocker/snes on this.
I think streets of rage is the big exception that everybody will point out because of it's unique rave soundtrack. Remember this question is purely subjective so people will have different ideas on how musical culture relates to their choice of console. Personally I find the gritty FM sounds from games such as Road rash to be more rock inspired, and the smooth samples from the SNES such as R-type more electronic and dance music sounding.
Do not repeat the tactics which have gained you one victory, but let your methods be regulated by the infinite variety of circumstances.

I answered SNES/Raver in the poll, but then I went and made this mix of raver music on the Genesis.
Maybe I should make a rock mix next...

Huh. Bone, I would have guessed you would be more of an FM Town's Marty/Zyedeco kind of guy.
