your collection, what if you're moving to another country?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

anyway to give more details, im from Southeast Asia... and we're moving to North America. so the stuff has to fly overseas if it gets to that. its a lifetime move.
selling it off now and buying it again would definitely mean MAJOR major losses. cant buy and sell them at a similar price. there's about 16 consoles , around 300+ carts. tons of accessories like joysticks and game pads.
i would sure like to bring them all at once, but like i said there are luggage limits. so maybe having them sent over by a relative at a later time is more plausible but a higher risk of losing them i guess. we're also not moving to a big place. so damn. im really conflicted about everything.
Where in SE Asia? I imagine even after extra cost of transporting them here - you will do better by selling them here than there. I think Singapore has a vibrant retro scene, but outside of that, you probably are tapping a very limited market.

Now, some things like cheaper consoles and joysticks - those, i'd gift away and rebuy. Something with a larger footprint that you can reacquire for $25 or less, it makes sense to leave that behind.

Depending on how much time you have, you could try selling here.

i did some mock packing earlier today. and tested to see how much i could fit in a large luggage. they're stacked one on top of another, so theyre in normal position when the luggage is standing up. ( as opposed to have them on their normal position when the luggage is lying down on the floor) i did that was because im able to fit more. is that safe? (or safe as can be?) the CD based are on top to avoid trays/covers being crushed. some games and cart based are on the bottom part as theyre sturdier ones.
ill wrap each with bubble wrap. clothing for cushion, or is there a better option of that?
anything that didnt fit in that one big luggage will have to say bye bye. :(
this big luggage though, will just have to follow me someday. because the plan is to have my parents or brother bring it to where im going someday when they visit. (i wish i could bring it myself but we're packed with the necessities of course)

some things i may need to check with airlines (maybe someone here knows?)
given all these are electronics with power adapters and such, do they have to inspect it thoroughly? (like asking me to open the luggage and present that theyre just consoles?)

i remember when i brought home a console in japan, (in my hand carry though) they asked me to bring it out and they scanned it. so im presuming it might like a similar case to a laptop. i was considering bringing a smaller luggage (hand carry size) with a few consoles as well that i could play rightaway when i get there

but whether its a checkin luggage or handcarry luggage, i do hope they wont need to have me unload everything.

If it were me with my current collection, I would sell a few items to pay for the shipping of the rest  Or pay for the shipping then sell some after to pay moving/shipping bills?

I would take some items, price them out on how much they sell for over there, then do the same for them over here, including s&h costs. Not sure if you'd benefit by waiting to sell those items when you get here or before. Regardless, it sounds like you've already got a plan to weed out some unnecessary titles.

Let us know if and where you're planning to move to, I'm sure there are members of this site that are close by and would be able to help plan the transition. I'ts been a long while since I've been active, but I did frequent the B/S/T forums and have had nothing but great interactions with members here.
