The best 90´s PC game

But, for the sake of argument, I'll also declare Myst as hugely important, even if it is arguably seen as a Mac game before a Windows game.

I was never as big on Doom as many have been.

Mine would be between Baldur's Gate, Starcraft, Fallout, and C&C Red Alert.

If we separate it into early 90's and late 90's I'd definitely say StarCraft and Half-Life for late 90's.

Now that's a tougher question. Probably Space Quest for me, though maybe Pirates! or Sim City if I'm being objective.

That's why I put that qualifier. Does Myst get considered a PC game for the purpose of this discussion? I always saw it as a Mac game first.

Myst vs. Doom is an argument that's hard to make because as far as game design ethics go they're polar opposites. Both were massively influential for completely different reasons.

For the sake of argument I think it's fine to call Myst a PC game even if it first appeared on Mac. It was the best selling PC game of all time for many years (that ignores Doom's shareware distribution naturally).

Was the Mac of the 90's not a personal computer? I didn't know this discussion was only about DOS and Windows games.

Myst sold more than DOOM yes. DOOM was a far, far better game than Myst, at least for hardcore gamers sure. They were both equally influential in their genres.

But you guys are still all wrong because Thief was the best 90's PC game, not DOOM.
