What's your favourite controller?
Image
>Do you loathe a controller?

I don't loathe them, but the N64, GameCube, and Dreamcast controllers all have aspects that aren't desirable.

>What do you like/hate about it?

The N64 has a terrible analog stick prone to self destruction. The GameCube's c-stick is just dumb and its d-pad is way too small and its z-trigger is unergonomic. The Dreamcast controller needs a second analog stick, needs for its wire to emit from the rear of the controller by design, and its primary analog has a little too much drift.

>If you could, what would you change about it?

The things I complained about.

Can't forget who wins the battery war:

Wii U Pro Controller. I think I charge this thing twice a year.

Think I charge the PS4 controller every other day.

The biggest problem with Nintendo controllers from the N64 and GC are pretty easy to nitpick and are valid.

N64 you could wear down the stick if you were abusive with it due to the plastic guts and because that stupid design didn't allow full access to all buttons on either grip nor the use of both the stick and d-pad at the same time too which was just wrong. The Gamecube partly aesthetics but the funky buttons on the face and the teeny Z button hidden almost on top, but outside that the damning bit was having 3 top buttons, not 4 like the others, making porting a pain in the ass if the games used them all.

And yes I'd agree the DC and XB controllers have an semblance between the two as well. My dig was the annoying use of the same Nintendo letters but flip flopping them as it just messes with me and I'm sure others. But yes by large Sony ripped off Nintendo hard basically strapping on some grips, 2 extra top buttons, and eventually the dual analog sticks to a SNES controller to call it the Dual Shock.

Every other day? I've had to charge mine twice in a single day, and that's starting from a full charge.

What really sucks about the N64 controllers to me is that I eventually got that gold one that came with... something? DK64? I have no idea, but it was awesome and then yeah, as everyone else has pointed out the joystick got all chunky and ruined. Then I mained a red one which also dissolved overtime.

Honestly I don't think the N64 controller is all that bad aside from that (rather big) glaring issue. The d-pad and C buttons were pretty good here. It's not quite ideal to go back to one joystick nowadays, but since it almost felt like a flight stick it's kind of okay in a weird way.

Definitely still bottom tier, but better than the GC controller by miles. I had two official GC controllers and hated how different they felt with the buttons, one being really loose like you couldn't even feel pressing down on the A/B buttons, and the other one had other issues. But yeah I hate the layout and the c-stick was terrible, Z-button was uncomfortable, etc. I have no idea what they were thinking.

Yeah, that Wii U Pro Controller battery life is boss. Makes my DS4 looks pitiful in comparison.

In my experience the DS4 seems to run out of battery faster than the WiiU gamepad. Which ya know, has an entire 8" touchscreen on it.

It does feel that way sometimes, but I'm pretty sure I get close to ten hours with the DS4 vs. around five hours with the GamePad.

Best way to fix triggers on a PS3 controller is to order some trigger caps for it. Do not buy the shitty ones Best Buy carries, they always break eventually. I just imported a bag of them from somewhere overseas and they are great. I found them on Ebay, China or India or somewhere and they came in like two weeks. Maybe ten bucks?

They work great and almost feel like the PS4 controller now. I have never broken or chipped one either.

Any caps that look like these:

Only if they look like the ones in the picture. Do not order the other one you will see, they break.
