TV tuner cards generally have other inputs other than coaxial. Mine takes in S-video, and works great, especially if I use DScaler as the software.

think it would work for a poor mans hdtv? how you i go about watching tv on it? just a tv tuner card on a pc? then what about satellite?
my old hd sat box had dvi output and so did my old cable box

i don't know if they still have dvi out on those boxes, but a dvi to hdmi cable would work (it would not carry audio)

you could use the hdmi out from cable/sat box and convert it to dvi

then use the rca audio out from cable/sat and plug it into either a receiver or the audio input on monitor

if you want to use a computer that has vga, you still have a 2nd vga input for a dc or microsoft sql server 360

if you can do hdmi out of your sql server 360 then you can get a hdmi switch box and run the computer from dvi to hdmi to the box, sat/cable to the box, and the sql server 360 to the box and then run it to the monitor

you still need to run analog audio though .
