I'm bumping, because there has been tons of new episodes playing and people should definitely check it out if they need a great mix of music to help pass the day. I am currently listening to it while doing the dishes!

Hey guys, Josh and I are debating a feature of our podcast and were curious how other folks would weigh in on it.

Here's the thing. Our podcast features listener-recommended video game music tracks. Listeners submit their suggestions to us and don't know if their picks will be featured in an episode until it comes out. At the moment we've been including a full track listing on the blog posts of each episode, which basically means that contributors already know if their track is played in a particular episode before they even open the file.

The question is: should we stop publishing the track listings so that each episode is more of a surprise to the listeners? Is that something people would prefer? Or should we continue publishing a full track listing alongside our MP3s?

If you're up for it, we'd love to know which approach you personally would enjoy more, and why.

I like having the track listings there so that I can always refer to it after listening to it. I never look at the listings until afterwards anyways and let it just be a surprise.

If you want to preserve the surprise, don't list the tracks for the podcast until the next one comes out. Alternatively, don't list them at all and have a message at the end of the podcast with everything everyone heard.

Key, I want to chip in for some (constructive criticism) I guess and be honest... I don't like the guy. It might just be his delivery or that kind of voice, but he sounds incredibly dry and bored. So he could maybe try to speak up a little more or put some energy into it?

Otherwise I like the few episodes I've checked out, the quality is great, and the segments are cool with the sound effects and such haha. You have a great and very fitting voice for something like this. Excellent selections from what I've heard too. Can't help but want to check some old games out solely based on their music!

So I guess I'm picky about voices for podcasts apparently.

Hey Xeogred, constructive feedback is always appreciated!

At least from my own experience, the podcast voice pickiness is real. I've tried listening to maybe a few dozen out there, just to abandon them after ten minutes (not including the beginning portion of some podcasts where the hosts just plug their unrelated upcoming shows/tours/projects for fifteen minutes, which I skip). I get so turned off by people using that "morning comedy show" voice, that sounds like "HE-HEEEY YOU CRAZY PEOPLE AND WELLLLCOME... TO THE 'CAST!!1'"

Interestingly, for a good chunk of earlier episodes, Josh and I had to move our recording time to a rather early hour in the morning for him; he's on the west coast and I'm on the east, and my work schedule changed temporarily. So you might be picking up on the fact that his coffee didn't kick in fast enough, and that I was comparatively alert because I was already three hours further into my day.

On the other side of things, I have an "excitable puppy" mode that sometimes activates, which is probably grating, too. Plus, I discovered that the world typically hates vocal fry in female voices, and I didn't even realize I had it until I was listening to our playback!

The things that you learn about yourself from podcasting, I swear.

But I totally understand if you move on to greener podcast pastures for you, and I'm just so glad you gave us a listen at all! It means a lot that people here check out our stuff, even in passing. Love you guys.

Wow that Waterworld song sounds a lot like a track from Phantasy Star Online!

Cool podcast key. Oh and I love vocal fry and I do it too.

Key, I just wanted to mention that despite my criticisms for your co-host, I have been avidly listening ever since.

Keep it up. Lots of great obscure stuff. The randomizer jukebox thing busts out some crazy stuff.

Also bump so more people check this out.

Aww, Xeogred, thanks! That's so funny to hear that you hung on. Even though I completely understand when people have to bail, I like knowing you're out there listening!

And to anyone out there who's interested in our podcast, we're currently in a rotating format that features 6 listener recommendations one week, then 3 host picks the next. On those shorter off-weeks, our haunted jukebox picks a randomized 4th track that we don't listen to before playing it on the air. This leads to some interesting stuff!

We've picked up a good group of faithful, steady recommenders, but since the podcast mission is about preserving all people's memories and experiences with VGM, we're always hoping to expand our audience and hear testimonials from new folks. So, if you have some tracks you love and anecdotes you want to share about them, please suggest that track to us! Especially if you've never done so before!
