I played CoD 1 and 2 on the PC some years ago, and I remember enjoying them a lot. Especially 2. And I definitely don't remember unlimited respawing enemies.
I'm big on WWII history and all that, so I enjoy games from that period.

I'm playing through CoD2 on the PC right now. Both 1 and 2 are solid and fun. The console versions are totally different, but I wouldn't stay away from them, maybe give them a try when you are done with the PC versions. The console versions are a bit more frustrating in spots, however.

Medal of Honor Allied Assault for the PC is another good FPS, and it's got 2 more expansion packs. It's also on many consoles as Tanooki mentioned, I was a bit disappointed with Rising Sun but it did offer that cool stage where the Japanese met with the Germans at the hotel.

Check out Iron Aces on the Dreamcast too, it's a flight combat game. A little loose with the controls but has a lot to offer.

Lucasarts 1988 title Their Finest Hour the Battle of Britain is a fantastic early WW2 flight sim. It is the game that made me love the Supermarine Spitfire and the Messerschmitt Bf 109 E.

IL-2 Sturmovik series is also excellent - Birds of Prey/Wings of Prey is very arcadey though. For historical accuracy, IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Stalingrad is probably the best.

It may be grindy but I like the damage system(you can still control a crippled plane until the damage is extremely severe) and 16v16 combat. Plus it has a pretty good population so matchmaking doesn't take to long and is usually fairly balanced. I also don't think the exp gain is so bad as long as you don't focus solely on kill count the bombing and capture objects can net you a ton of points as will providing assistance to your team mates. I also like the fact that you can choose between arcade style controls and realistic. Sure the upper level planes take forever to unlock but that just ensures you are experienced by the time you get there. What fun would it be if you got to the jets only to have 101 new players ramming you costing you a fortune in repairs :P.

Mortyr comes to mind. It's a WW2 FPS with a time travel plotline from a Polish developer that was released in 1999. While a lot of the reviews were negative, I had fun with it.

Metal Of Honor: Underground for PS1 is one of my favorites.

From Wikipedia:

In Underground, the player takes the role of Manon Batiste (based on Hélène Deschamps Adams), a French woman who appeared in the first game as an advisor. The plot of the game begins before the original Medal of Honor, when Manon fights for the French Resistance before America entered the war. As the plot progresses, Manon is recruited to the OSS and takes on covert missions in occupied Europe and Africa. Missions include the sabotage of a V-1 flying bomb factory and rescuing prisoners of war. Levels include, occupied Greece, North Africa, Monte Cassino and Germany. The first and last levels are set in Paris, at the beginning and end of the Nazi occupation.

Lots of great stuff in this one. Strong female protagonist, fighting with the French resistance, lots of locale variety, authentic "feel" to the atmosphere, varied objectives. The enemy AI is also really good in this game. They use sniffer dogs to find you for example. One time I threw a Molotov cocktail at a Nazi soldier and he caught it in mid air and threw it back at me! First class FPS for its time and much more imaginative than your average WW2 FPS dreck.

Allied Assault is solid fun.

Rising Sun was great for it's online multiplayer! I had a blast playing that game online. The single player, however, was inferior to Frontline. I only played through Rising Sun's single player once, and it was back when the PS2 was current gen, so I don't remember it too much. The only thing I definitely remember was thinking Frontline was much more fun to play.

I thought Airborne was pretty good, but a little short IIRC. And Vangaurd on the Wii was decent as well.

I still haven't played Underground. After enjoying Frontline, I picked up the original MoH on the PS1 and played through it a couple of times. After discovering Underground, I picked up a used copy but never got around to playing it. At this point, I'm not sure how much fun I'd have with it and it's dated graphics.

I play this on and off, very functional with no thrills.

If you can get over the lack of tutorials or finicky AI, this one is worth investigating.
These two seem really interesting.

And any good indie games that have to do with WW2?

Too bad Battlefield 1943 wasn't ported to the PC :(. I really enjoyed it on the PS3.

It still plays fine. Graphics wise, make an ISO of your copy and play it via ePSXe with Pete's GPU plugins and high settings.

IDK, I'm a real hardware kind of guy. However, recently I've been thinking more and more about emulators with plug ins and whatnot (mostly PS1, N64 and Wii).

For N64 and PS1, certain emulators allow you to significantly increase the image quality of low res polygons into higher res more aesthetically pleasing results. Definitely give it a shot if you find old low res polygons too ugly to deal with these days.
