Does it have to be a past era Japanese theme? Or do modern Japanese themes also count?

I would think you could include Okami, seeing as it uses mythology elements.

I see Dynasty Warriors has already been mentioned, which moves us into China as well, so I'll go ahead and mention the long-running Romance of the Three Kingdoms series.

Also, Shinrei Jusatsushi Taromaro A.K.A Psychic Killer Taromaru, although who can afford that game?

It's also worth noting that Kendo Rage, First Samurai, and Musya: A Japanese Tale of Horror all have either an old school or modern aesthetic.
