I am such a huge Spurs fan. I started rooting for them back in the David Robinson days, and hated to see them lose like they did... until Tim Duncan came along. I was happier for Big Dave more than anyone, and I still remember how excited Avery Johnson was after that first championship.
Over the years, fate has been good to the team. Still, that loss to the Heat in the Finals was brutal. I literally did not sleep after Game 6 that night. Even though I had no control, everything kept running through my mind. I didn't dare let myself believe they would ever be back...
...but they did it, and did it with style. Nothing can ever top last season for me as far as the Spurs go. Nothing. I'm so satisfied right now that I really don't care what happens this year. I mean, it'd be great if they won one more before Duncan and Ginobili retire, but last year was so perfect that nothing can really compare.
So, this year... I think the Cavs at least make the ECF, and the Bulls should be really, really good. I like a lot of the up-and-coming teams, and I wouldn't be surprised if the Pelicans made the playoffs this year. If the Spurs can't take it, I'd love to see the Memphis Grizzlies win a title. They really do remind me of some of the older Spurs teams, and Marc Gasol is a guy who I'd love to see in a Spurs uniform.
Also, I'm hoping that Kawhi can make that next leap. I mean, he's obviously really good now, but I'm curious to see if he's going to be the face of the franchise, or just very, very good like an Andre Iguodala, contributing to every facet of the game. He's definitely not in the traditional superstar mold.
Should be a fun year, whatever happens!

Re: NBA thread
^they have till friday to get kawhi a contract or he's an unrestricted free agent in july. he wants a max deal, hopefully his agent is bluffing because i'm not sure he's worth max money yet. 12 ppg and 6 boards with that cast around him isn't max money i'm sorry. i also became a spurs fan when they drafted the admiral. and no not a bandwagoner, lived the majority of my youth in texas.
Re: NBA thread
Yeah, I'm still somewhat skeptical he can be the face of the franchise, too. He's definitely not worth max money yet, although the Spurs may think he will be. They certainly can't afford to let him walk, unless they feel they can tank and get some good draft picks. I don't think you can do that, though. Good perimeter defenders don't grow on trees, and the Spurs have two! Talk about a luxury.
They may just wait and see what he does this season. I think the Spurs, if he takes that next leap, will offer him that max or near-max contract. I think Kawhi is Spurs material, but I guess someone could snap him up if he goes unrestricted. But I think the Spurs cap situation should be okay, I think both Duncan's and Ginobili's deals expire after this year, so they should have some flexibility.
As for being a Spurs fan, I'm probably one of the few people I know in the state of Mississippi that's a Spurs fan. Heck, I've never even been to San Antonio, and I've rarely ever even been to Texas.
EDIT: So apparently he'd be a restricted free agent, so at least the Spurs can match offers.

You've never been to the Alamo? San Antonio is nice. I like Texas in general, the Spanish women are a sight for sore eyesSarge wrote:Yeah, I'm still somewhat skeptical he can be the face of the franchise, too. Also wanted to say, you know how you can tell baseball is dead? It's a potential World Series clinching game tonight and no one has started a single thread.
They have escaped into the mansion where they thought it was safe, yet.
Re: NBA thread
^ used to watch alot of baseball when i was younger and had the time. 3 hrs x 162 games is alot to invest and im just to busy. I follow the braves until they start sucking and still may only catch a game a week then. As far as the world series this year, just aren't interested in those two teams.
Re: NBA thread
Actually, baseball's doing pretty well. They're making money hand over fist, and setting attendance records. I'm not personally interested a whole lot in baseball (although I was as a kid), but I know people who are.
I'm personally rooting for the Royals to pull it off tonight. That'd be a pretty amazing story.

Ramen noodles makes a profit. I don't eat it. Baseball makes money, I don't watch it.Sarge wrote:Actually, baseball's doing pretty well. There's nothing wrong with that... it just doesn't make it "dead", is all I'm saying. I didn't watch either. I'm a basketball fan first, football second, and most other stuff comes in well behind.jvalentine98 wrote: Ramen noodles makes a profit. I don't eat it. Baseball makes money, I don't watch it.
In NBA-related news, apparently the new-look Cavs lost last night to the lowly Knicks. Wowzers. Tough to take anything from a single game, though, obviously!

the coach is going to have to learn to use his bench. to many minutes for the starters. bad game from Bron Bron. i'm sure they'll get it going once they learn to play together though.Sarge wrote:There's nothing wrong with that... it just doesn't make it "dead", is all I'm saying.
