But there are completely different games are they not?
Yeah I mean AITD on GBC def wasn't a 3d survival horror.
They have escaped into the mansion where they thought it was safe, yet.

A Game Boy Color version of the game was separately developed by Pocket Studios. While older hand held systems would often abandon 3D environments entirely in favor of easier to render 2D sprites, the Game Boy Color received a relatively faithful version of the home console game. The Game Boy Color's cartridge-based format necessitated the loss of the full motion video cut scenes from the other versions, and many game play areas had to be reduced in size while some were eliminated entirely. However, the basic pre-rendered environments and 3D character imposed over top of them remained.

If you watched any of his videos he covered Aladdin on GEN vs SNES and Goldeneye N64 vs Wii which are not just straight ports either but different games. The Alone in the Dark GBC I haven't played but Sonic Generations follows the same story mostly and Sonic Colors being a direct continuation of the Wii's story.

Donkey Kong Country GBA ports and the Donkey Kong Country GBC port are just scaled down ports are they not? I don't remember those adding anything new. Except a new awful map screen.
ah ok I get you. Then you're right. I just thought it would make more sense to compare games that are direct ports, I wouldn't bother comparing Donkey Kong Land to Donkey Kong Country, I'd just judge them as their own seperate games.

Maybe you misunderstood me. I also wouldn't compare land to country by the OPs initial post. My last comment was only directed at you because the OP said not scaled down ports of console games and gave Killer Instinct GB as an example. My question to you was, "is there anything in the GBA or GBC version that add anything or is it just a watered down port"? I own all three but I couldn't stand to play the handheld versions that long when the SNES version seems so much better.

Prince of Persia the forgotten sands on PSP is more like the classic games, 2.5D action platformer.

X-men origins wolverine is like the console, a hack and slash, but has it's own story line and diferent set of mechanics.

I think almost every sonic game that is ported to the DS/3DS has it's own set of levels, lost world, generations, etc.

Final Fight SNES vs Final Fight One GBA -- a good improvement, JP removed lame censor of the women, missing stage returns, unlockables in option screen, it's just right.

Super Ghouls n Ghosts SNES vs GBA -- you could play the same game, but there's this arrangement mode for masochists that adds in new harder stages to play. It does have a save mechanism, but it's evil too as it saves your status(armor) and remaining lives. You can't play bad, save, and have 3 lives to play again.

Blackthorne, Rock N Roll Racing, and Lost Vikings (SNES) vs GBA -- Very faithful conversions with no loss involved and they do save without a crappy password system.

Pocky and Rocky SNES vs P&R with Becky -- Adds a little more to the game and an added character, still lame password saving though.

Zelda Ocarina of Time N64 vs 3DS -- Same game, 3DS adds a little more things to do, redrawn and improved textures and rendered areas, nicer audio, decent good use of the second screen.

The DKC and Land games on the GB/GBC/GBA are crap. I've had some (DKL1+2, DKC for GBC and GBA) and they're just not nice. The worst of them are the GB/GBC stuff because they keep the size of the stages and sprites(you, enemies) the same, so you end up having a loss of view area that'll get you often killed until you learn the areas, the worst being leap of faith jumps over visible pits on the SNES. The GBA games aren't as bad, but they fail in other ways like audio.

If you think that is impressive, you should compare the arcade version (or DS, DVD, PC, Wii, Sega CD, etc.) of Dragon's Lair with the GBC version. It is really amazing that the developers were able to cram that game into a GBC cart.
