Yeah the most popular console will always get all the shovelware, guarantees the best return return for the smallest amount of work. While I agree with the first couple of comments on that page that the graphs are drawn in a way that favours the authors point and he doesnt really address the standard deviant, I cant really dent that there are loads of games that I would never play on the system.

Another point to consider is that the wii has a lot of girl/family games that dont fair well in reviews that are mainly written by 20ish males who like tend to like more hardcore games. My 7 year old daughter LOVES Bratz Diamonds on her gamecube and plays in constantly although I would say it was pretty boring and uneventful.

There are some pretty good looking games on the horizon though, Ghost squad, No More Heroes, SSBM and Battilion Wars 2 are all high on my 'wants' list

All 4 should be high on your wants list. They're all great games. I've only played the Jap version of SSBB obviously, but it was still great even though I understand almost no japanese.

Is it just me or is the Wii getting a TON of fishing games (at least more than necessary)? Hook'd, Rapala, Sega Bass Fishing is coming soon, Fishing Master, and I think there's at least one more I'm missing.
Atari 2600 (AV mod), NES, SNES (region switch for PAL), Virtual Boy, Gamecube, Wii (D2CKey), PSX (Stealth V), PS2 (independence exploit w/ 160 GB HDD), Goldstar 3DO, Philips CD-i, Dreamcast, Saturn (racketboy's chip), Sega Genesis 2 + CD2 + 32X + Power Base Converter, Game Gear.

I was going to say that it's because it's the most commercially successful system out at right now. Thats already been said though.

Shovelware has been the plague of any system. especially systems this young. Just look how long the 360 took to get momentum and pull away from the rubbish ports. It's only been the past few months where the amount of decent games outweighed the crap games.

You've also got to take into consideration the fact that developing for a system like the PS2 (in it's maturity now where dev kits cost next to nothing compared to the returns) or the Wii (architecturely identical to the GC which gives the advantage of developing houses porting their code base relatively simply to the new system) It's very simple for games manufacturers to code games for these platforms. Compared to the several million pounds it costs to develop games for the 360 due to platform complexity.

It's always been the same. The only real exception to this rule was the SNES due to it's seperate custom chips for audio/graphics and cpu increased difficulty for developing games compared to the relatively easier (to develop for) Motorola 68000 based megadrive. The amount of shovelware/poor games was pretty even for both systems. So it's not always as simple as the market leader gets the shovelware.

It just turns out that the market leader is the cheapest and is the easiest to develop for this time around. (as apposed to the inverse being true as we have seen in the last 20 years.)

this is interesting. i was always under the impression that the ps2 was one of the worst platforms to develop games for. with the xbox 360, microsoft gives you xna studio so that pretty much anyone with some programming knowledge and will power can start cranking out games for the xbox 360 easily.

The PS2 is indeed a bitch to develop for, but the system's been out for so long that it's likely Sony and others have developed more than enough libraries and pre-packaged routines and so forth to attempt to accommodate for this.

The Saturn was always very hard to develop for and Sega was accused of keeping new libraries and routines that unlocked more power with the system to themselves for a while before releasing to others. That's one thing that ran developers to Sony, Sega's own behavior.

But the more helpful libraries you have the fewer times you have to get down to the level of the metal to tweak your design or performance. That and the PS2 has been out for a long time now. Once you've developed the skills to develop on a bitchy platform, why waste them?

I have to say the Wii has the games I want (Zelda, Mario and Res Evil 4) I'd take them over a million more sh1t WW2 themed games and FPS's (I like FPS, just despise them on consoles). The only things that I really drool for on the other consoles are pretty much DC games which I already have anyway tbh (im talkin about XBLA here) - also I do have to admit wanting SF IV, SF2 HD and Tekken 6 (oh and Soul Calibur 4). I recently bought Gears of War for the PC to see what it was like, and while I did indeed enjoy it, I didnt see what there was so much fuss about tbh, I think its cos it was an early release, and to people who exclusively play consoles the graphics looked absolutely incredible, whereas to someone who still games on his PC, they werent THAT extraordinary.

Yes I'll admit that there is a load of crap on the Wii, but I just dont buy those games. I DO wish there were more shmups brought out on it though.

Why must people always try to place the 360 into the whole "nothing but FPS games" generalization? The same could easily be said about the Wii's mini-game hell. Yeah there's a handful of WWII based games on the 360, but the library is pretty robust overall. Also, the 360 is currently the current-gen console for JRPGs. I won't deny the Wii has a couple good first and third party games, but you also have to consider that RE4 and Zelda: TP are also on the Gamecube. Using these games to defend the console would be like a 360 owner trying to say it's worth getting a 360 to play Halo 1. That would never fly on the other side of the fence.

So yeah, all consoles have their shit games, but the Wii seems to be pulling in more than any other system I've seen. I guess that's what happens when you try to casualize everything, while applying the "win button" philosophy. I won't lie, I think the Wii is a flat out joke of a system. It'll truly be a sad day if they win the console war, because that means quality is not a concern for millions of people.

I don't even own a Wii (like someone else has stated, it's like impossible to find one), and it makes me sick just looking at all the games. I want to get a Wii for Brawl and Mario Kart. Perhaps Super Mario Galaxy and Twilight Princess, but I can just borrow those from a friend. Anyways, all Nintendo does is release these crappy mini-games and sell them for like $50. Carnival Games, Raving Rabbids (some hate, some don't), EA Playground. And finally, the worst (imo) of them all, Wii Fit. I mean, WTF. Why did they come up with that idea...go outside if you want to get exercise. In short,
This is how fun Wii Fit will be.

However, I'm one of those people that don't always like to try new things. There's some games that have good reviews, but people just overlook them. And then there are those games you are looking forward to playing and they get a mediocre rating, like Dragon Quest Swords (I thought it looked fun, but you can't always trust what GameSpot says).

This is obvious but if you don't have anything to play, you can always to go the VC.[/url]

I think the crap to good ratio on the Wii isn't much different from the PS1, the Genesis, and the NES, and it isn't too far off from most other systems out there either. Nope, inarguable proof is not to be found here.

What the hell do I care about all the games I am not buying. The market may be bloated, but my Wii is sitting on my shelf next to a stack of varied and universally well-recieved games, and it doesn't look bloated, just sexy as hell. I find the arguement especially silly on this board, where tastes ridicule the vast majority of games to begin with. The fact that the majority sucks should be a given.
