Good ideas....are those games available on steam though? I guess some will be as re-releases though (see monkey island). Can we also just copy/paste the reviews from the site there?
The id collection includes things like Heretic, Hexen, Doom, etc, which are all running in Dosbox. We obviously can't do a full Hidden Gems article because not everything is on Steam, but we could do "stuff on Steam that's old but awesome".

It's late for me here I'm going to sleep. Tomorrow I'll cross reference what's in the site's articles and what's available on steam...(or someone can do it for me while I'm sleeping, I won't get mad)

yeah...um...J T? I looked at the guides section....there isn't an actual guide on PC hidden gems or 101 ect... http://www.racketboy.com/retro/microsoft/windows (and the single dos article is about the best pac-man clones).

EDIT (ok I miss-read your post yesterday, I thought there already was a defining/hidden gems article for PC games).

There's not one because that would be far too big of a project. Fast and I have discussed it several times.

We'd have to. But how do you break it down? We went back and forth about whether to focus articles more on genre, years of release, OS, etc. But each one presents different challenges of their own.

The best we could figure out was by chunks of years (1-5), but even then the 80s and 90s articles would be gigantic. But all the research lead us to find out some random facts. Like did you know the first FPS to have vehicles was released in 1984?

But that would suck, because then it would take forever to get to Z, which has a couple of my absolute favorites, Zone 66 and ZZT.

It would be pretty cool to highlight the old school stuff on Steam, though I'd personally rather play much of it on GOG...
