Updated the first post with the info spacebooger posted(I meant to put that in the first post but again I didn't give it much thought when writing it out).

And personally I hope they only set them somewhere $5-10 (usd) because any more than that for the figures no matter how more advanced than skylanders they may be isn't worth it to me...

Based on current market they will be $10-15 for standard sized figures, which is acceptable in my eyes. However my worry is that they will be used for NPCs only. In Smash brothers they just showcased them as advance and customizable NPCs/Training buddy, and that I do not care about. If they use them for a Skylanders like game (so a multi universe Gauntlet style beatemup) or a Mario 3d Land where I can play as Link or Pit, then hell yeah, I am in for all of them. But as it stands I am cautiously optimistic.

Surprised it took Nintendo so long to do this. They had the AR cards already, but the collectable figure is what drives this type of market. Just like Skylanders and Disney Infinity, major dollars to unlock everything in a game. The figurines are nice but makes the portable 3DS versions less portable (if there is that version).

I'll buy DLC but I'm not buying into the inflated toy market prices.

If they want to expand game content and make additional money; that is cool with me. They just better provide the same content as a cheaper download for people who don't care about the trinkets.

Yeah but unless you're using the 3ds that really wouldn't make sense. Plus even with my limited shelf space I could use some decent collectables especially some multi function ones

I don't think the figures are going to act as DLC in any way shape or form, providing new characters or costumes. What you will see will be more in line with what they are doing with Smash Bros. With Mario Kart, it may be literally just using them to store and play ghost data, or create NPC trained racers much like the NPC trained fighters in Smash.

Eventually, it will have a full fledged game, no doubt, but I do not feel that the figures are going to create a, "pay to win," or a, "Pay to experience the full game," situation.

Way back when, when Smash Bros. Melee was my big new obsession, I loved the in-game trophies and used to think how awesome it would be if you could buy or win real life versions of them.

Amiibos are literally real life versions of the character trophies from Smash Bros. Nintendo have said they plan to release one for every playable character in Smash Bros U. Whether the functionality is worth it or not, I will be buying these, because I can finally realise that dream from 2002 XD

I just don't believe it. I see it as nothing more than a stepping stone to become the next Skylanders.

We'll see soon enough I suppose.
