2DS XL w/ clam shell design and same $200 price point w/ better build quality would have been much better, IMO. Maybe better battery life, brighter display, higher quality plastic (or even glass) over the top screen, 2nd circle pad, etc.

Definitely been waiting for them to add the second stick. Was expecting it on the XL and was sorely disappointed.

I agree about the design being ugly and all. But, like everyone has mentioned, this isn't being targeted towards our crowd.

What I do like is that hopefully those parent's that would love to buy their kids a shiny new game system they've always wanted but could never afford, may now get a chance to make their kids happy. I'm pretty fortunate to have a good enough job so that when my kids are to the age where they start wanting to newest toys, I can buy it for them. I can't imagine not being able to give my kids the stuff they want on Christmas and breaking their little hearts

Seriously, I think the target market for this device will appreciate the price and ability to jump into the newest system. I don't think they realize how easily their kids are going to destroy these things.

I agree with most of the people in this thread. This design looks absolutely terrible and a real step backwards. One of the things I liked about Nintendo's handhelds is that they were clamshells as opposed to the N-Gage, the PSP, PS Vita, etc. Sure, the Game Boy Micro wasn't a clamshell but that was an exception.

The screen is even smaller than the standard 3DS screen? That can't be right.

The screen is the same size as the original 3DS.

I for one am excited for this. Not being able to see 3D on the 3DS has been a huge issue for me. I didn't want to be paying for a function that I can't use, a major factor that has kept me from purchasing the system. Make the system $70 cheaper than the 3DS XL and you have me sold. It looks funky, but they say it is more comfortable. I don't lug it around with me everywhere, as I have no need for a true portable. I will use it in bed, or on the couch while my wife watches a movie or something... who am I kidding, I will use it on the can!

This is just like the GameBoy Micro. It will be a short run release that people will eat up. I will buy it and enjoy the software.

The majority of people HATED the clamshell design on the original DS. What changed?

I don't really remember people bitching about the fact that the original DS was a clamshell, just that it looked like a brick. Maybe I just wasn't paying attention. Anyway, I was never part of that majority. I've owned the original DS, the DS Lite, and now a DSi XL and I love the clamshell on all of them.

They did? It makes sense for the two screens to be a clamshell. A slate is what seems awkward.

I like the 3DS as a clamshell and the Vita as a brick. It's what works for the features of each portable.
