I've been loyal to Sony since the Playstation, so not stopping now. I think if you're planning on getting one, you're probably ok to wait for a year or so. There is still (a lot) of life left for the PS3.
I'm getting mine on launch day. It's the little things in life.
Why should you buy the PS4?

This is pretty much my only justification for buying either the PS4 or XBox One at launch.
There's not a whole lot to play the first year. Especially when it comes to stuff you can't play on older consoles or PC as well.
Older. Not wiser.
Re: Why should you buy the PS4?
I waited till 2010 for the re-design of the PS3, which was a far superior model imo, despite not having PS2 BC, but that's ok, my PS2 sits next to my PS3 being played.
Also waiting gives you a better library of games to choose from, unless you need to be constantly playing the latest releases so you can look cool from a social aspect.
While many people will be out buying a PS4 at launch and being all getty, adding more to their backlogs, ill playing catch-up on my PS3 backlog.

so you can look cool from a social aspect.
Or maybe people actually like talking about new systems with their friends?
I'll be skipping the PS4 for the first 2 years, unless I end up getting one for Christmas. If I do get one, I'll want Mirror's Edge 2, but it's not enough to make me spend almost $500.

I cant keep up with all the new games coming out honestly, and i usually wait for games to get under $40 unless its a must have, how do you make time for your backlog and brand new releases?

Re: Why should you buy the PS4?
Well, I mostly just play games I have until I hear about one I really want. I'm pretty laid back about "handling" it
I'll be getting a Vita and already have a 3DS, but the PS4 will wait a few years. Just wanted to point out that the ones who do aren't doing it for bro points.

Re: Why should you buy the PS4?
I've got a PS4 preordered, which I don't plan on cancelling. I don't usually buy systems right when they come out, but, it can be fun to be "part of it" so to speak, rather than just reading other people's impressions.
Given that I've found every previous Sony console to be well worth owning, I'm not really worried about it not delivering (at least eventually). As I said in some other version of this conversation, launch titles and stuff aren't as big a concern to me due to PS+. I'm not going to have to shell out $60 just to have a game to play on it.

How about someone here do an actual breakdown of features for both consoles?

Consoles aren't that different feature-wise any more. The Xbox One has a Kinect in every box so developers can count on it? That's about it. More comes down to which exclusives or timed exclusives are you more interested in?
PS3 has Killzone and Knack and inFamous and future Naughty Dog game and The Witness. Xbox One has Titanfall and Dead Rising 3 and Ryse and Below and future Halo game.
