I was 13 so I was just at the cut off for being young enough to be part of the craze. A lot of my friends stuck with it but I feel like I "grew out of it" as well.

I'm not saying I think it's too kiddy or anything I just legitimately lost interest with age.

Screw all you guys, Pokémon is awesome.

Admittedly, the games are a bit samey and easy, but they're still very charming and offer a lot of options to the player with the sheer number of pokemon moves, abilities and attacks on offer.

The real depth of Pokémon comes from playing competitively against other people though imo. There is a lot to think about and consider there, and a ton of strategy in customising your team and finding a squad that can cover each others weaknesses.

This.

Every couple of years my friends and I get a wild hair and pick up the newest version of the game and play for a few months. It's always worth the <$40 we sink into them.

I love these games, but you need to be able to play with other people who are at least as invested as you are into them. As a solo experience, they're fairly easy and end up pretty boring.

The Pokemon games are pretty beefy, for their time anyway. If you're going for completionism you'll be spending as much time with these as you will with a Final Fantasy game.

I think if people that find them overly kiddy actually played one of them they would be surprised there wasn't Elmo sing-a-longs and spelling lessons. It is pretty much just typical RPG fare, with its own gimmicks and quirks.

I used to like Pokémon a lot when I was younger. Silver was gtthe last game I played before I "grew out of it" (and handhelds in general). Now that I'm back and love my 3DS I'm ready for more. Bring on X and Y!

During my senior year, any computer-related class always had Pokemon Black and White under the desk every day. Four or five people at least.

I don't think I'll every have that kind of opportunity again!

So...why do people always buy one variant way more than the other? Maybe it's just chance, but I've met a lot of people playing Pokemon Black and only one person playing Pokemon White.

I guess people just think Black sounds cooler. There generally isnt any huge differences between them (in Black and Whites case the major difference was one area which had high level trainers in black and extra exclusive wild pokemon in White, and this was probably the biggest version difference in any of the series).

The same happened with Diamond and Pearl. Diamond was a blueish case and pearl was pink, and I guess a lot of guys didn't think the pink one was for them

I meant story-wise.

I enjoy Pokemon. Don't think I'll ever have as much fun as I did with the original though. I did catch them all.

Now there are too many. And special event Pokemon. Can't really catch em all.

I'll probably get the new game. But it's hard to say whether I'll fall in love again or stop after a few days. I only played Pokemon Black (or white? Can't remember) for maybe a week. Never tried the sequel games.
My B/S/T thread! :)

I never got into Pokemon and felt like I was "too old for it" when it was new even though I was only 12-13. The card game ESPECIALLY looked too childish since I had already been playing Magic for a few years at that point. Not being into Pokemon was never really a thing when I was in high school; I don't remember anyone proudly displaying their fandom. But then when I went to college I found myself surrounded by Poke-fans! I played Diamond for the DS and enjoyed it well enough but it didn't really *grab* me. I don't think it's a series I'll ever be passionate about.

BUT I have to say that Pokemon Conquest looks awesome and I really want to play that at some point.
