Okay, it's official. I'm not buying Arkham Origins

Fuck multi-player

Might still grab Origins Blackgate though

God, are there any single player franchises left? Mass Effect has multi-player now. Tomb Raider has multi-player now. Resident Evil has multi-player. For fucks sake. I'm sure half of Batman's trophies will revolve around this shit.

I couldn't decide if I was going to get it when it releases or not, but I guess I'll just wait for that $20 price tag. I don't really care about playing the multiplayer anyway, but I don't like how companies waste time and money on it for games that don't need it.

Why would a game having multiplayer keep you from buying a game? Don't miss out on an amazing game like Tomb Raider because it has multi dude.

TBQH I always thought that multiplayer could suit Arkham quite well.

The animation in that multiplayer vid is pretty bad. That's disappointing. Hopefully that's just the multiplayer aspect or because it's early and it will be optimized.

It just irritates the trophy/achievement hunter in me. I don't like competitive mutli-player gaming and I don't have an Xbox Live Gold account, so anytime I see a game with multi-player trophies/achievements in it I'm seeing a game I'll never 100%.

That said, the way you talk about the latest Tomb Raider I might still give it a shot at some point despite my multi-player gripes. You and noiseredux have tastes that often tend to mirror my own, so I'm inclined to believe you when you say Tomb Raider's single player is awesome.

Well they took every aspect of the first game and refined it and added to it in the second game. It's more of the same yes, but every element improved upon in some way. Basically, a more polished version of the first game. There are two notable differences though. The first game was set up like a Metroid game, while the second one gives a GTA like open world with various side quests. Though it is much smaller in scale than your typical GTA game. Also, the boss fights are actually pretty good, unlike the rather uninspired ones in the first game
I actually enjoyed the back-tracky style of the first game more than the open world checklist sort've feel of the second. Asylum felt a bit more focused. Though the final boss is dumb. Regardless I really liked both games.

I've gotta say I'm more curious about the handheld game though, specifically the 3DS version.
I agree the first game and it's linear Metroid feel worked better. I was focused and on task at all times, while in City I kept getting sidetracked by side missions and strayed too far from the main story... or was in the middle of too many missions that I was confused on what to do next. The openness really removed me from the story.

Yeah, there are definitely achievements tied to multi in TR, which is a bummer if you're into that. Single-player has a lot of collection things that I felt were really compelling though and the Metroid-like "gain a skill, back track and use it to get stuff" gameplay was really nice.

In Arkham City, I just tended to ignore most of the side stuff and continue the story. Whereas in Asylum I hunted down practically all of the Riddler trophies.

I just watched some footage of Blackgate on Vita and it looks AMAZING. I'm easily more interested and excited for the handheld versions. I really enjoyed Arkham City but I think I can wait on Origins and grab it when it's cheaper.
