I'm still not sure whether I'm a kid or a squid now.
Re: The slow decay of survival horror
Oultast seems to be garnering mostly positive reviews, and the new Amnesia is close to being released. Good times for horror fans.

Well, it's not completely dead yet...and the PS2 library has lots of awesome survival horror gems hidden away, so gamers can always dig through that. Dead Space is one of the best new series of survival horror games to be released this gen, and Silent Hill and Resident Evil released a couple of new games too.

Re: The slow decay of survival horror
Never liked this genre much to begin with.
The "classics" like Resident Evil and Silent Hill put me to sleep.
Modern "horror" games are just shooters with "scary" enemies.
But very few games truly have a scary atmosphere. Amnesia: The Dark Descent is probably the best recent horror game I can think of and absolutely wipes the floor with Japanese and shooter stuff. Would love to see more titles in that vein.

I'm personally looking forward to the new Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs (I am a huge fan of the Penumbra series - and prefer them over Amnesia, but I'm curious what the new Amnesia might entail), and I'm also very curious about the game The Evil Within.

Yea The Evil Within is highly anticipated for my collection. I seen a brief teaser and suddenly couldn't find anything on it anywhere hopefully its not a Kinect game.
If you can see the future while remembering the past, you may just have control of the present.

Well that would make it a pretty damn scary game though.
I tried whatever that Kinect horror game that takes place on an island is called back when it came out and it was ridiculously frustrating.

Ah, Rise of Nightmares?
That's the one! It was a damn nightmare. That's for sure.

And the game I mentioned is entirely glossed over as expected
With technology like the Oculus Rift there's much potential in the visceral horror element but we're ways off still.
