All of those games are also on the PS1. They are hardly exclusive!

It does have slowdown, but I'm pretty sure that the slowdown is also present in the arcade version.
I thought that might be the case. Anyone know for sure if the slowdown is accurate?

Not sure how accurate the slowdown in Metal Slug port is compared to the arcade version. All I know that Metal Slug MVS does experience slowdown.

Yeah, Metal Slug is a pretty sluggish title. It isn't Gradius III but it has slowdown pretty much everywhere.

Why play on the Saturn instead of using MAME?

I can't speak for vampire savor or cyberbots on the PS 1 msh vs sf and xmen vs street fighter should most definitely be considered exclusives on the Saturn since the PS 1 versions are so gimped and can hardly be considered worthy arcade ports...

-KOF 97: A solid port. Really enjoy the CD arrange audio. Loading times are tolerable but are there after every round. If you can't deal with that then i'd suggest JPN Orochi Collection on PS2.
-Sam Spirits: Can you refresh my memory on what installment this contains? 2, 3, 4 no?
-Fatal Fury 3: Never played the Saturn port and quickly lost interest in this port once the super affordable "Battle Archives 1" made it to the states.
-Hunter: A high quality port with little compromises. Loading screens a very quick, audio is high quality, but there are some slowdown moments when too much intensive visuals pile up on screen (Phobos and Pyron level battles spring to mind) but don't hamper gameplay drastically.

Hope this helps a bit.

OK I'll give you Xvs.SF as being a piece of shit, but Capcom made an encouraging improvement with it's MSH vs. SF PSX port especially considering the limited hardware. Almost every MAJOR issue (aside from the obvious tag) that plauged the PSX port of Xvs.SF was rectified in the sequel. Cut frames animation remained minimal and whatever frames that were cut out was conciously done as to not affect gameplay. Heavy amounts of slowdown present in its predecessor are no longer an issue. MSH vs. SF runs at a brisk pace even with a shitload of visual eyecandy onscreen. The hidden "Cross Fever" mode (which attempts to replicate the arcade tag feature via mirror matches) via a code in Xvs.SF evolves into its own mode in MSH vs SF into a pretty decent survival mode where you allowed to tag in return for playing with the whole roster of characters (it sounds stupid but it works surprisingly well and as a matter of fact has allowed me to learn the entire cast by playing this mode as a kid). As if that isn't enough capcom threw in some aditional modes to fill the void including a training option (one thing that the SAT port unfortunately lacked for both games!), an ending gallery, an artwork galley, and a pretty interesting Hero Battle mode for those of us like to take sides in this crossover. Usable Final bosses also apply to this port as well. Oh shit, I almost forgot, perhaps the most well thought out design change by Capcom is the removal of the standard traditional rounds in favor of matches that flow ala Killer Instinct, Vampire Savior where matches continue immediately after the first knock out for a more natural flow to this chaotic fighter. Also as a result of inheriting the arcade feature ability to switch you point character before the match begins, the PSX version allows you at least to switch your characters before a match beings ;)
