That's what I was thinking.

OP, what region is your Saturn console? Make sure your backups are set to the same region that your console is. Unlike the PS1, PS2, X-Box, etc., a mod chip in your Saturn does not make it region free. That's a separate mod.

My Saturn is a model 2 with the round buttons. Here are some pictures of my first attempt. I had first used the 14th pin method but was only able to run originals. Backups just went to CD audio screen. When I first connected A and B I used a small bit of wire to connect them, when that didn't work I just connected with solder. When I tried to play a game the CD didnt spin up but sopposidly even with no power to the chip, originals should still spin up right?

Instead of soldering to the board, could I solder the wires to aligator clips then clip to power and 14th pin? Or would that not work? *Edit* If everything was working and I had the cart in, would I still need to region encode to US to play JAP and EUR backups?

The chip and a cart together will let you play import burns if everything is cooperating.

The chip has to get power for anything to spin.

No, Racketboy was able to contact me on the 7th. I replied to his message but have not heard anything since. It's just sitting gathering dust right now until I figure out what needs to be done with it.

Okay, still having some trouble with my exchanged chip. Got my replacement a few days ago and finally got around to installing it today. I bought myself some new solder and a pack of copper "Test"clips. These have flat pinchers on them so it was more easy to attach them to the appropriate connections than before. Got everything set up as before and placed in an original game.

The original games spin up and boot normaly. Played a bit of NHL 97 and everything seemed fine. Then just to make sure I backed up a copy of Rampage to a CDR using 6X speed (Because Nero, Astro Burn and Alcohol 120% seem to be unable to burn @ 8X speeds). The copy process at 6X speed had an average of 4X burn speed. When finished I popped it in and pressed power. CD spun up and proceeded to audio menu with green cubes and could only play audio. Tried this with other games I had previously burned that I used "swap trick" with and still didnt work.

I haddownloaded the Sega CUE maker from the site but attempts to run it came with an error saying an important file was missing and had to download another version to make CUE sheet. Next I attempted to burn an image at 10X because the previous speed seemed to burn 2 times slower than the set speed, This time with Alcohol 120%. The CD does not spin up correctly and does this "sputter" spin thing.

This was done using the 14th pin method so I then connected the A and B connections with solder and re-installed the chip. Placed in an original game to make sure everything was working and sure enough, it ran NHL 97 and played wonderfully. I powered off my system and placed in a 6X burned game and pressed power. System booted normally but again when it started to read the game it went to the audio screen where I was still able to play audio tracks.

I am about ready to give up. The other posts seem to have so much better luck than what I am having. It makes me sad that I am unable to play my old (And new) backups. I have attached pictures of the ways I have tried this time. If there is something I'm doing wrong or if somebody has a backup that you know works please let me know, Thanks!

hi neonsage , what is your burner brand and model ?

also what brand of CD-R are you using ?

IMGburn is what you want to use to burn Saturn games , have you tried a Sega Saturn rip from Underground Gamer ? .......maybe the image your using is corrupt.

edit

ive read of the odd backup game not working on one SS and then working on another so your going to want 3-4 test games to try.

Hello s8n, thank you for your response :) I am using a Dell Inspiron 1520, the CD drive is listed as a Hitachi HL-DT-ST CDRW/DVD GCCT10N. Came with the laptop. The type of CD-R's im using are Philips CD-R 700MB, 80min, 52x speed data discs.

In my previous posts I mentioned that my backups all work using swap method and all my original games run accepts for my B.U.'s. I have not tried the site and program you speak of yet. When I get home from work I will them out and mabe pick up some more CD-R's, any that are recomended?

I am wearing powder and latex free vinal gloves when handeling the chip to ensure that im not passing any static electricity to the chip. I am using the copper test clips to avoid any unnecessary soldering in case I need to make a quick alteration. Are there some model SS's that are just un-modable? I need to do more testing I guess. Thank you again s8n.
