Buy a PS1/Saturn copy but play Discworld on PC if you want to own a physical console copy of the game (I dont think that the PC big box copy is that much more expensive than the console version tbh). Playing adventure games on D-pad rather than mouse blows.
It's definitely worth a play, it's an underrated game. Awesome cartoony look, plenty of fun dialogue&jokes and voice acting by two great British comedians (Eric Idle from Monthy Python and Tony Robinson from Black Adder). I was actually surprised to read that such big names were doing voice work to a video game in the mid 1990s. It's a hard game though, so you might want to play it through with a walkthrough guide, aslong as you talk to every one and try out evertyhing.

Top 10 retro graphic adventure games of all time from PC to consoles
You shouldn't play the NES version of Maniac Mansion though. There are also few other console ports of LucasArts games: Zak McKracken, Loom and Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis on the FM Towns Marty (rare and expensive as hell, FM Towns Marty costs what, 700 dollars, and there's a copy of the Indy game going for 480 dollars in eBay atm) and a Commodore CDTV version of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (very rare as far as I know, most likely quite/very expensive).
My WTB thread (Sega CD/Saturn games)
Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box
