Poison's legacy: Newest God of War won't have female enemies
Re: Poison's legacy: Newest God of War won't have female ene
I will say that when violence against women is paired with sexuality I find it extremely distasteful and inappropriate. They should have the right to have that in their game if they want to, but I'm glad they won't this time.
Re: Poison's legacy: Newest God of War won't have female ene
First, I'd like to point out that this is a thread where dudes are complaining that in one single game of one single franchise, they won't be able to beat up women. And still, in a thread where, again, guys are complaining that they can't beat up women, this post I'm about to share stands out for its stupidity and sexism.
I also like the comedic juxtaposition between calling people who object to the sexualized violence in videogames uppity and then following it with "It's called freedom of expression." Freedom of expression doesn't mean that only people who agree with you are allowed to have opinions, it means that the government can't censor your ideas, which doesn't apply in this case. The makers of God of War freely chose to change their product based on people's freely expressed criticism.
Then we have this gem "So a franchise built around ... female degradation." You realize that degradation is a bad thing, right? Is recognizing that women are full human beings really going to ruin the series? And if that does ruin the series, was it really worth anything to begin with?
Sold out? Who says that? What does that even mean? It's a multimillion dollar video game franchise owned by a multinational corporation. It was designed to make the maximum amount of money. I'm wondering how exactly it can sell out? Who is it selling out to?
And then to finish it off "Pu**ies." Oh, a gendered insult. Hmm, what kind of people use gendered insults?
Uppity: You know who uses the word uppity in 2012? Sexists and racists, that's who. I mean, how dare women (and men) have the arrogance to express their opinions on the God of War series.Gamerforlife wrote:The more things change, the more they stay the same. I can't believe people still get uppity over stuff like this. It's called freedom of expression. That's who Kratos is. Take away the sadism, and he's a completely different character
So a franchise built around violence, blood, brutality and female degradation (the sex mini-games) suddenly wants to clean up its act? I guess the GOW series has finally sold out. Pu**ies.

But complaining about violence, of any kind, in a God of War game is akin to me complaining about homosexual innuendos at a Gay pride parade.threetoed wrote:First, I'd like to point out that this is a thread where dudes are complaining that in one single game of one single franchise, they won't be able to beat up women. No, this is a thread where people complain about developers deciding that violence against one of the sexes is okey but bad against the other. I'm sorry but your reading comprenhension is terrible if you are infering any other meaning.threetoed wrote:First, I'd like to point out that this is a thread where dudes are complaining that in one single game of one single franchise, they won't be able to beat up women.
You should also google who Poison is.

If this is true, then I guess the ESRB rating "M" stands for "Morons" now.

See, look what you've done here. You recognize that since English is not your native tongue, you might not have the command of a native speaker. You have pointed out an area where you might be somewhat ignorant. Instead of alleviating that ignorance via learning, what did you do? You proved your ignorance.General_Norris wrote: I facepalmed so hard I broke my hand twice. I'm embarrased of your grasp of English and it's not even my first language.
In the US, where Gamer4life lives, the word uppity has racist and sexist connotations. In fact, people who use the word uppity in public are usually attempting to signal to like-minded individuals that African-Americans and women being allowed to have opinions is infuriating to them. That is because those people are sexist, racist, or usually both.
In fact, Gamer4life misuses uppity in his sentence. Uppity means arrogant. It doesn't really make sense to say someone is getting arrogant over the issue of violence in God of War. Upset would be a better word there, if you were a normal person. You might imagine that's even what he meant, except that he follows it up with "It's called free expression." He is clearly upset that certain people have the temerity to think that their opinions matter. What kind of people? Hmm...if he used some slur against an entire group of people, we might be able to figure out who he doesn't think deserve to have their opinions heard. Oh, wait, he does. It's women. That makes sense in a thread where a bunch of guys are whining that they can't beat up women.
Now, some people might point out that in previous threads, you've claimed that things people call sexism in games and films are just the elements of the narratives that those creators a. want to tell and b. will appeal to their audience. Now that the creators of God of War are altering their story to appeal to their, you start a thread whining about it. Some people might point out the inconsistency and label you a hypocrite.
Clearly, that would be wrong of them. You're views are entirely consistent. Consistently sexist. Why might that be?
Re: Poison's legacy: Newest God of War won't have female ene
Threetoed: I agree with some of your points, like the female degradation and the freedom of expression comments. I think that Gamerforlife's "pussies" comment was a bad call. However, you need to stop with the personal attacks on him. It is against the rules of the site.

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/uppity
Read a dictionary sometime. As far as my usage of it, I was referring to the air of arrogant, moral superiority people take by looking down on a game that depicts violence against women, when those same people don't seem to take issue with the violence that has always been depicted against men in this series. It's hypocrisy
A game is a work of art, and the creators have the right to show whatever they want. That's what I meant by freedom of expression. If people don't like it, they should play something else. My original post was simply pointing out the strangeness of a franchise built on brutal, merciless, excessive violence suddenly wanting to reduce the violence. It sounds like they are feeling pressure from some source or another and are changing their way of doing things to cater to them. That's pretty much what selling out means. The moment you change the very essence of your franchise into something that completely contradicts it in order to make it appeal to more people and make more money, you are selling out.
As far as sexism goes, the idea that it's okay for the series to depict men being killed in various horrifying, cruel ways but not women, is EXACTLY what sexism is. In other words, I am NOT a sexist as I see no reason that female characters in the game should be treated any differently than male characters.

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
1. The new developers aren't letting Kratos kill female baddies? Okay... Not that it matters but, at this time (the 6th game?) it's pointless.
2. Pussies? Whatever. Twas a joke that got taken the wrong way. Shocking that it happened in text on the internet.
3. Hasn't the series gone downhill anyways?
4. Uppity? Yes, denotative-wise it's not racist but the usage does typically tend to go on one or two types of people hence association with racism despite the meaning.
5. Anyhoo~

Uppity does not have that connotation. Racism has nothing to do with this conversation anyway. Nobody is saying other people can't have opinions either.threetoed wrote:In the US, where Gamer4life lives, the word uppity has racist and sexist connotations. I believe most of the posters are complaining about women getting special treatment over men. That's bit different from simply wanting to beat up women.threetoed wrote:That makes sense in a thread where a bunch of guys are whining that they can't beat up women.
