I agree. The SP is super uncomfortable for me to hold and needs an adapter for headphones. The original GBA is the best IMO, but the lack of a backlight makes it nearly unplayable for me nowadays. I usually use my GBA micro, but sometimes I'd like the extra screen real-estate and comfort. Plus, there's something to be said for the ease of swapping batteries with the GBA compared to the rechargeable later models.

This project is super legit in my book!

I'm okay with the SP. Even though the buttons are a little more cramped I like the folding portability.

@ Rubix -Nice mod!

Haters gonna hate, but this project is awesome!! I always massively preferred the GBA form factor and headphone jack to the SP, but the screen was just horrendous. I did one of the screen mods that was available at the time to my black GBA (what was that mod kit called again? afterburner?), but the GBA SP+ screen is vastly superior. I've also been thinking about doing something like this, since if I had a GBA with a really good screen I could ditch my DS Lites and DSI and basically play everything on either GBA or 3DS.

One question I have is, is there a way to install the mod such that you get a higher brightness setting? Or it's adjustable? That shot you have of it showing Zelda makes it look _amazing_ but it would be cool to be able to max out the screen, even if it wasn't adjustable post modding.

Fantastic project!!!

This mod looks pretty sweet. I too prefer the ergonomics of the original GBA, but the unlit screen really is a turn off. I may be doing one of these for myself ><

I am so glad that there is a conversion cable for this! I tried to do the front light mod to an original GBA using the first version SP, it was a pain to deal with the fragile reflecting film that went over, one slip up and there was a permanent mark on your screen. Ended up bailing on that project (though doing it on my NGPC worked pretty well).

Now that I know that there is a cable that allows for a pretty much straight swap, I am going to be doing this for sure. I already have a super clean White GBA, just found a donor SP at a thrift store, now I just need to order the cable. I agree with a lot of people that the original was the most comfortable to hold, and looks the best, now it will have the best of both worlds!

Got my cable today, the seller is the nicest, most pleasant person I have ever dealt with online. He responded to emails within hours, and his responses were very informative. He made sure I got the correct cable (there are 3 versions) and got it shipped very quickly. And to top it all off, when I got the package today there was a hand written note thanking me for my business, highly recommended seller.

As for the mod, I have completed it and it is very cool having the backlit screen on the original GBA, I will post pics later.
