I sold mine. I *like* Gunstar, but I don't love it. To come clean, I don't think I'm a big run-n-gun fan in general. It's weird. Love shmups, but OTHER shooting games don't seem to do it for me.dsheinem wrote:

Re: Together Retro: Gunstar Heroes
Ahh, I love Gunstar Heroes.
I've never owned a Genesis copy (I played my friends copy back in the day) but I do have the game on both VC and XBLA.
I've beaten it many times, but I'll play because its awesome and it'd be silly not to. If any of you have never tried playing the game co-op though, you really should. Its great fun.

I guess I shouldn't have sold my nice minty Gen copy on here recently during my baby sale haha. Oh well, I guess I will get it on XBLA

Will be doing this one again as well! It was one of the first Gen games I did when I discovered that old Genecyst emulator (because the best ROM site of the 90s outside of IHOR, The Dump recommended it). I've only played it on Easy, so I was getting Three Force instead of Seven

Why are there 2 Gunstar Heroes topics? Shouldn't they be merged into 1?
Re: Together Retro: Gunstar Heroes
The other one is Guardian Heroes. That confused me at first as well.gtmtnbiker wrote:Why are there 2 Gunstar Heroes topics? Shouldn't they be merged into 1?

Re: Together Retro: Gunstar Heroes
Anyone got any power combo suggestions before I get started on a run?
Re: Together Retro: Gunstar Heroes
The ones I remember using the most were homing/rapid (outputs a large volume of homing bullets) and homing/laser (shoots a laser that stays onscreen and continuously attacks enemies). Fire/anything was super effective against bosses in some cases, but I usually tried to avoid fire because of its uncomfortable range. Maybe I'll give it more of a chance this time. Some other good ones are rapid/rapid (massive volume of bullets) and laser/laser (strong penetrating laser).alienjesus wrote:Anyone got any power combo suggestions before I get started on a run?

Fire/Fire was my standard choice. It's longer range and more powerful than standard fire. Either way, the effectiveness of fire is more about swinging around, as it arcs wider when it moves. Fire/Laser is another choice I like. It's the most powerful but had short range. It's main advantage is that it's one of two powers which destroy enemy bullets, making it great for the likes of Crab Force, as it destroy those annoying walls it shoots. The other weapon with that effect is Fire/Chaser, which I also like, as it destroys bosses, It can be awkward to use on normal enemies if you use free shot like me though, as aiming it makes your character move.Dylan wrote:The ones I remember using the most were homing/rapid (outputs a large volume of homing bullets) and homing/laser (shoots a laser that stays onscreen and continuously attacks enemies). In easy mode, Seeker/Lightning served well. Also liked Fire/Lightning for a close range power attack.alienjesus wrote:Anyone got any power combo suggestions before I get started on a run?
