Why Can't Konami Seem To Do Anything With The Contra Series?

I like Shattered Soldier.

I'm absolutely awful at it, but it certainly is a worthy title.

I played liked the first level of Hard Corps Uprising, it was pretty good. It doesn't quite look or sound like our Contra, but it plays like it. It's the Batman Beyond to our Batman the Animated Series. Yeah, that's a weird analogy I know

and Shattered Soldier is #@!$ing badass! I'm surprised I have to tell you guys that. I thought it was common knowledge by now. I own it and all of you should to. My only real issue with the game was that the aiming controls were uncomfortable for my hands, making long play issues a bit rough. Watch this video

Also, listen to the eargasm that is this track

+1 for Hard Corps: Uprising.

Shattered Soldier plays a lot like it, if you can get over the graphics, it's playable. It's feels like a beta for HC:U, a lot of the same play mechanics.

Contra 4 for DS and Contra Rebirth for Wiiware were pretty good addition to the series. I also enjoyed Shattered Soldier for PS2. Hard Corp uprising I haven't tried but might give it a go in the future.

Here's my favorite level overall in Shattered Soldier. It has the awesome Crawler Tank song, the level starts off action packed and I love the fate of that second mid boss

Shattered Soldier has the hallmark of all good Contra games, methodical, smart, level design. Getting S ranks is the ultimate goal. Having a completely heavy metal feeling soundtrack and a hidden cameo from Konami's Sparkster doesn't hurt either. It's the best of the modern, 32-bit Contras

EDIT:Fate of the SECOND midboss

Well, the problem with Shattered Soldier was that it was mostly just boss battle after boss battle. It wasn't exactly run n' gun-style carnage like the older games.

Wasn't Hard Corps like that too?

...on Genesis? Actually, I wouldn't know. Never played it myself *Hides and waits for criticisms*

I've heard plenty of good things about Hard Corps. One of these days I'd like to pick it up. Also tempted to get Shattered Soldier if I come across a copy.
