Good answers, but is the 360 still around?

It is and it's full of brogamers high fiving each other, ruining things.

in all seriousness, has anyone else noticed that the 360 seems to be the console of choice among those under 21? I feel like every nephew I have has a 360. Every co-worker with middle school aged kids has a 360. Every adolescent I see shopping at GameStop is for 360. It's weird. I'm guessing a lot of it is "I want the console my friends have," but I guess I assumed that age group would flock to the Wii -- both Wii and 360 haivng similiar price-points.

Teenagers see the wii as a 'kiddy' console, making it instantly uncool. The PS3 costs more than the 360. Seems like a pretty obvious conclusion really.

As for young kids, I know plenty with a wii, but lots of them want to be all grown up and edgy and cool like their brothers etc, so they also want an Xbox.

Yes, I've noticed this and in my opinion it has to be chalked up to the "I want the console my friends have" thing. As for why the 360 is "that" console, I'm not sure, but I'm guessing a combination between the Xbox being more of a social/online console and the fact that it was the first 7th gen console to launch.

oh wait, so it's like when I replaced my NES with a Genesis? Y'know that Sonic has way more attitude than Mario!

Xbox 360 is like a Ford truck. Big, tough, loud, American, and guaranteed to break down after regular use.

And yes, most of the teenage gamers I know (and there are hundreds, I work at several different public schools) prefer the 360. Wii is for the toddlers and PS3 is some weird expensive Japanese thing.

The main reason I see for that is that the 360 hit first, was far cheaper initially, and came out of the gate with (at the very least) a more consistent online strategy. The first year or so of PSN saw Sony scrambling to add features in for parity, and it still doesn't quite match up (lack of universal voice chat, for example). Nintendo's offerings in that area are laughable.

The original XBox was easily the stronger online/network multiplayer contender too. People playing Halo 2 multiplayer like that bought a 360 to play Halo 3 the same way.

I agree, it's the "I want the console my friends have" thing, but in extension "I want to be on the same online platform as my friends", which for the U.S. is just more likely to be Live than PSN.

As a kid, I was always drawn more towards the SMS than the NES. The SMS was different, had better looking graphics and sound (well, sometimes) and no one else had it. I guess I dared to be stupid (no weird al links please...unless it's of the transformers movie).

Always loved the great NES games, but I always was looking for the strange and unusual (no links to beetlejuice please).

I finally convinced one of my old reps to sell his 360 and build a PC. He did so right before the Steam Christmas sale. Sure his PC cost alot more to make, but after that sale he almost evened out (and has almost all of the same games). Then again I corrupted him and he has a 22 inch screen for competitive and has it hooked up to his 70 inch tv for casual play.

the SMS ruled! I was the only kid I knew who owned one haha. I don't know if I'd say I like it more than NES, as they are quite different. But I'm actually a way bigger fan of SMS than of Genesis.
