No need to be rude. As you can see I am getting two different answers. You and KDub say no. While others, say I do indeed need the battery pack, which I believe is the case.
Thanks guys.

1: Rechargeable battery pack - 99% are going to be useless and not hold a charge.
2: A regular battery pack - opens up and holds normal AAA batteries, more logical than trying to get a rechargeable pack but runs through them fast.
With out either of these options you are stuck to a wall with a a/c adapter.
Hope this makes sense.
That's all I needed to know. Thank you.

Right you need an attachment to power up at all. Either lack of battery pack or AC input is no good.
As for other fun novelty facts... Yes Nomad can be modified to accept a Master System adapter. Though that idea adds too much bulk to comfortably use portable. It's also true the AV plug retains RGB, despite never releasing in Europe for most users to care.

You still need a battery pack for the AA batteries. The Nomad by itself doesn't hold batteries.
Nomad accessories can be a tiny bit confusing. Like said above, the Nomad itself does not hold batteries. A lone Nomad can only power up via an ac adaptor. To use it one the go, you'll need either a rechargeable battery pack or a AA battery pack, which is the same shape as the rechargeable battery pack, but is an empty case with space for four AA batteries.
I prefer this method, as it can use the latest in rechargeable battery technology, giving one far more power than batteries of the '90's. Plus, the empty battery shells are cheaper used than the power packs.

Yes, I agree. This is the way I will be going. Gonna try and find a cheap battery pack. Most seem to be around $30. Quite pricey when I got the actual nomad + accessories for $55.

Hi!
Just got a SEGA Nomad this week and started to read this thread...
Wow, I didn't know that the nomad didn't hold batteries!!!
I need to get it working with my mega drive power plug...
that's right, I'm European and we use 240v here.
Since the nomad was designed to work with 110v, I shouldn't connect it to my mega drive power plug, right?
what can i do to make the console work here in Europe?
Thanks
Actually it's completely fine to use your European MegaDrive Model 2's AC Adaptor. It takes in the 240 and spits out the same 9v signal as the US or JP Genesis/MegaDrive.
Since the output is always identical whether it's Euro, JP or US as they're all the same machine on the receiving end the Nomad will power on fine and you won't risk any damage.
What you shouldn't do is plug an American or Japanese AC adaptor into a European socket, or even waste the money on an adaptor (too much crap to set up and have fail) if you already have one for a MegaDrive.
My Consoles:
Genesis - Nomad - SegaCD - GameGear - Sega Saturn - Dreamcast - NES - SNES - N64 - Gamecube - Wii - Playstation - PSone & LCD - PS2 - PS3 - Xbox - 3DS

Sorry to hijack the thread, but I have a couple questions as well.
1.) Anyone know of replacement covers for the battery pack that holds the AA's? Mine came without a cover.
2.) I know where else to ask about this, but does anyone here have one with a replacement screen? I'm looking for the best and easiest to work with these days; I know people who can help me with the mod. I wouldn't mod it, but I bought one with a cracked screen knowing it could be replaced. At least it works perfectly otherwise and is actually playable, although much of the screen is permanently orange. Not bad for a $15 investment.
