The fan-boy stuff works well for specific sites. I do not participate on forums for other websites, but there is usually a wealth of information with a niche site.

For example - I was looking for video game music and stumbled upon a site dedicated to the genesis sound chip and it provided all the tools for converting and ripping music as well as providing a ton of music that not many other people have.

The shmups.system11 is really useful as a tool, but you can see where people get into arguments on the forums. Luckily we're pretty well rounded here because we all love video games in general despite our favorite systems. I've actually branched out a lot after speaking with people.

Our Meetups, B/S/T group, Together Retro, and Fight Nights help keep this community from being too polarized.

Anyway, back on the rails, I must say I do appreciate the neutrality that comes with this forum's eclectic interests. NEC, SNK, Nintendo, Sega, etc. are all great to me (each for different reasons). Despite any appearance of brand loyalty, I assure you the name was just the first portmanteau that seemed to flow together.

Good point! For all of Sega-16's fanboyism, they sure do know a lot about the system. I guess I wish it was more appreciative and less bitching. But then again, even we do have our "modern system" bitchers, something we should definitely work on as a whole (although, to be fair, they always get called for it). Anyway, I wasn't knocking dedicated fora, but rather fora which produces hate. Love the Genesis soundchip? Great! I just don't see a reason to get too defensive about it or hate the SNES one because it doesn't sound good to them.

Speaking from the OP, I love it here too. Such a good retro-flavor and experience here, because that was what the site was built on. I think everyone gets a chance to speak up and out about their favorite consoles here, and nobody seems to mind my love for the Dreamcast quite yet after a month, so yeah I think we're good --

Don't get me wrong, it's no problem to state your opinion, positive or negative, but when the sole purpose of a forum as a whole is to glorify one product and deride the rest, it really, really turns me off of that forum. Sega-16 is probably the worst that I've seen. Ugh, ugh.

Yeah of all the years I have been here I do enjoy the community as a whole, when I needed to cleansing of my collection, you guys helped me out clean out, and I am thankful for that, sure I don't post as much as I used to (hey life gets in the way), but its home to me. I only had a one gripe, which is a snobby "I'm too cool to actually buy an actual console, I just emulate and pirate my PS2 games", has nothing positive to say...at all, and when he had plans on doing something...he never does it anyway. Luckily, he's gone, and good riddance too, I am glad he has a fear for high forum member counts, because the hippest thing to do is to flee when there is a high number count, that means the thing is not cool anymore (if you guys know what I am talking about, lets not speak of it...don't even mention his name ether. If you don't, don't bother asking).
