Only 4 of my 14 J360 games are region free... And only 2 more are available in America and/or Europe.
But yea, if you want a shmup console. Know that it will NOT be cheap. The Wii does have Illvelo though. Great game! The cheapest shmup console besides using a computer + MAME would be the Dreamcast because you can burn whatever games you want, and they just work. I prefer buying games, but that is an option.
Thinking about getting a 360 for shmups
Re: Thinking about getting a 360 for shmups
PS1, PS2, Genesis. Excellent shmup consoles, all cheap, with a great selection of inexpensive games. PS1 and Genesis are pretty much the cheapest of the cheap when it comes to retro consoles. You can even get a modded PS1 for $25-30 if you look hard enough, and have access to NTSC-J games + burned games.ZenErik wrote:But yea, if you want a shmup console. Know that it will NOT be cheap.

If you're simply looking for cheap games, fine. But a lot of the best shmups will still be anywhere from $60 - $200+.

Games and media when new are generally all expensive in Japan. Good shmups also hold their value and are desired by people in other countries since they don't require reading to play.Onyxthecat wrote:I want to know why the prices are so crazy for J imports?.

Great choice. When you decide to import, I recommend starting with Mushihimesama Futari. Its quite affordable, and really got me addicted to shmups on a new level.
Espgaluda II is also quite cheap, and is jam packed with unique modes.
Also, keep your eye out for Raiden Fighters Aces locally. 3 fantastic games that got ports that put some cave ports to shame.
Grats on your new system!
