it isn't worth getting over the N64, Saturn, PS1, or any of the 16-bit consoles, but it is eons better than the 3DO, CD-i, 5200 or other failed consoles, in my opinionGameMasterGuy wrote:I could understand fans of it, but there's much, much better systems out there. Opinion on the Jaguar?

Re: Opinion on the Jaguar?
Do you like Tempest? If so, you must get a Jag + an s-video cable + a rotary controller. It's the only way to fly. It's an expensive proposition; probably close to $200 just to play one game, but's a great one. (dsheinem just beat me to this observation)
Otherwise, a Jag might be worth it if you're into mid-90's fps for some reason. They're not my cup of tea (in fact, they literally make me sick), but there are a number of them and they are well done on the system for their time.
Since I own a Jag for Tempest I've accumulated a small group of decent games for the system: Rayman, Raiden, Pinball Fantasies, Super Burnout and Cannon Fodder. All pretty good games, but it's pretty much all about Tempest.

Anything's better than it; I have yet to find a worse console.dsheinem wrote:it isn't worth getting over the N64, Saturn, PS1, or any of the 16-bit consoles, but it is eons better than the 3DO, CD-i, 5200 or other failed consoles, in my opinionGameMasterGuy wrote:I could understand fans of it, but there's much, much better systems out there. Re: Opinion on the Jaguar?
Just so you know, that is a terrible terrible game and should not be considered towards the price of a system. It should only be used ot test that the system works.Icedawg wrote:that comes with Kasumi Nija
On a side note, there must be a game in the system for it to power on. If you end up finding one on Craigslist for cheap but the person can't find any of their old games and it doesn't come on, it is likely just because there is no game in it. Unlike other systems where you can at least try with nothing in to see if it comes on, a Jag will do exactly nothing with no cart in. Something to keep in mind with any 'as is' Jags that could tip a cheap gamble in your favor.

Re: Opinion on the Jaguar?
I just wonder how it would've done had it not failed. The 2D abilities of the system are absolutely amazing (take one look at Super Burnout for instance). It also had great voxel capabilities but they weren't used much if at all to my knowledge. There's one unreleased game that looks damn good that uses them called Phase Zero. Looks like an earlier Saturn game.dsheinem wrote:it isn't worth getting over the N64, Saturn, PS1, or any of the 16-bit consoles, but it is eons better than the 3DO, CD-i, 5200 or other failed consoles, in my opinionGameMasterGuy wrote:I could understand fans of it, but there's much, much better systems out there. Older. Not wiser.
Re: Opinion on the Jaguar?
Like I've said before I've owned just about every single system maybe minus the Wii and DS.. so that's a major reason why I want to play it, just to try it out. There's a few games out there I want to try like Alien vs Predator and that Cart Game. Plus who wouldn't want to say they are playing the last real console Atari ever made?
I'm guessing I'll have to overpay a little if I want one soon it seems like

Re: Opinion on the Jaguar?
really, how do you figure? There are more exclusives on the Jag than the 3DO, the hardware is more dependable, the library avoids those many horrible FMV titles that plagued the era, etc.GameMasterGuy wrote:Anything's better than it; I have yet to find a worse console.dsheinem wrote:it isn't worth getting over the N64, Saturn, PS1, or any of the 16-bit consoles, but it is eons better than the 3DO, CD-i, 5200 or other failed consoles, in my opinionGameMasterGuy wrote:I could understand fans of it, but there's much, much better systems out there. True, I was just saying that's what it came in lol... game looked decent on youtube. I have a few games already, in the past I've purchased as-is systems but they haven't worked so on that respect I'm a bit hesitant.Hobie-wan wrote:Just so you know, that is a terrible terrible game and should not be considered towards the price of a system. No arguments here, though I have little expertise on the 5200...
