Which camera view do you use for driving games?
Re: Which camera view do you use for driving games?
I always drive "behind" the car because its the only way to see what's beside you. Your blind spots are huge when racing in the cockpit. It's like driving with tunnel vision.

I like to drive with the camera mounted on the front bumper, with a rear-view mirror on the top of the screen. Makes it look like the car's going really fast.

Jumping on the 1st person for sims (not just racing sims, space sims, too!) and 3rd person for more arcadey games.

Driver San Francisco's first-person cam is simply awesome! Best open-world driving game and a steering wheel only makes it better.

I prefer the cockpit view, because your controller is moving they entire scene in front of you, which seems more responsive. The outside view of your car is cool because you can marvel at your exotic super car, but I always feel there is a bit of lag between your thumbstick and the car turning. Is that just me?

Yes, exactly. Putting the camera in the drivers seat would be ideal in theory, but in practice it requires an Eyefinity rig to get a decent field of view.

Yep. I prefer the cockpit or hood view in simulation-style racers like Gran Turismo, Forza, and Toca Race Driver.Pulsar_t wrote:
Unless the cockpit camera doesn't fill half the screen with the dashboard I usually opt for this view as a "compromise" between realism and sense of speed. I almost never play using the chase cam unless it's a vehicular combat game or a sanbox title.
But in arcade-style racers, like Outrun, Burnout and Ridge Racer... I prefer them behind the car but raised a bit so I can see the road in front of me well enough to anticipate the next turn by a few seconds.

Bumper cam. Used to use chase when I played San Fransisco Rush on 64 til I saw bumper cam on Rage Racer. So much easier to play.

completely game dependent for me, though generally I prefer to see the car. Games like Ridge Racer, however, feel laggy and off if you aren't in "bumper view".
