This is a pretty random game that I'm sure no one has heard of, but Triangle Service released a shoot em up compilation on the xbox 360 in japan.
It included a game called "Shmup Skills Test", that had you doing everything form shooting tons of tanks, to shooting cans into a recycling bin.
The game has a lot of different stages (you only encounter 20 per game, but its random, there are so many), and one of them is an 8-bit mode.
So, you get all kinds of sound effects in this game. Some 80's, some early 90's, some late 90's.
Pretty cool stuff, although I'm sure shoot em ups in general would fit this category more often than most genres.

Most of the games that I hear beeps and boops in nowadays are retro throwbacks like Titans Attack, Pineapple Smash Crew, and Wizorb.

NES, Master System, and old Arcade "BEEP BOOP BEEPS" I like, but the Atari 2600 games were often just grating on your ears. It was like nails across a chalkboard to me on some games. But then, I don't have the nostalgia towards the 2nd generations games (as it was right before my time) that I do towards the 3rd generation stuff.

To bring this full circle, here's a guy who put old school sound effects(NES Contra, Batman, etc.) into Battlefield 3. The result is...awesome!

I think the games on the Homestar Runner website should count. Those guys were deliberately striving for a retro feel, though.

Great choice using Journey to Silius for the title screen.diesel_dan wrote:To bring this full circle, here's a guy who put old school sound effects(NES Contra, Batman, etc.) into Battlefield 3. The result is...awesome!

Hyperdimension Neptunia and Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2 SOMETIMES use old school effects.
