Mork and Mindy (especially after Mirth showed up)
Newhart
Bosom Buddies
Cheers
Night Court (watching Season 2 on DVD now, it's still great and it has the COOLEST themesong of all time.)
I was gonna try to defend Alf, but it really wasn't that great. I guess that was mostly nostalgia, so I have to agree that Alf wasn't that funny.
What's the best 80's sitcom?

Yeah, Blackadder I was kind of weak too. The Blackadder character wasn't fully developed yet and he's sort of a hapless weirdo, not the seething prick he became in the later shows. Still, I thought it had its moments, some good laughs, and if it weren't inevitably compared to the follow-ups, it'd been seen as a damn good show.
Blackadder III just didn't work for me. Not sure why because it uses the same formula as II and Goes Forth, but I laughed exactly once during that series - at the end of the first episode when Blackadder seethes about having destroyed a priceless turnip.

Good call. A secretly weird show. Best ending ever.

I'd like to watch Alf, but I don't want to until an uncut version is released. The current DVD sets you can buy are the shortened, butchered syndicated versions.

I thought III was pretty funny myself, although I found myself laughing more at Goes Forth. I'm interested in WWI history, so I found the historical backdrop interesting, plus the writing was quite strong. Particularly the episode where Blackadder and co. join the Air Corps, that flying ace character was hysterical.

I was only born in 87, but Family Matters started up in 89 and that still remains one of my favorites with The Cosby Show

Re: What's the best 80's sitcom?
Full House. It pretty much defined the 80's not intentionally funny sitcom.
But when I think sitcom, it's hard for me to throw Cheers and Newhart in that category as those shows transcend what a sitcom is. To me, Home Improvement is a sitcom (and an awful one at that) where as shows as Fawlty Towers and The Larry Sanders show were just well written comedies.

How could I have forgotten about that show. I *LOVE* the Golden Girls. When I had cable I watched it all the time when it would come on. I've been meaning to get the DVD sets but I haven't yet.
Seriously awesome show. Betty White was/is brilliant.

Don't hate me but I liked Saved by the Bell. It was very late 80's early 90's though.
Thanks everyone...
