Actually HDMI sources have the capability to do that themselves. Of course you can still manually adjust the timing of the audio.

Idk that all HDMI sources can do so, but many of them have some sort of setting. My Pioneer has auto delay and sound delay. Auto delay allows it to decide how to sync up the audio and video, but honestly I don't use it, and have found it necessary. Usually properly calibrating your distance and volume usually does it.

Yeah, my Denon receiver has the ability, but I've never needed it.
