You are right, back in the day the third party controllers were cool because they all had turbo options and looked more interesting than the standard controller. Now I'm first party all the way.

Slowly over the years I've learnt not to buy 3rd party controllers, it took me a while but it got through my thick skull eventually.
I have that Dreamcast controller BTW, and while it is a piece of shit, I do think that the thumbstick works better than the original. I don't use it though, I give it to friends to use when they come over for a shesh of MSR :lol:
