Darius Gaiden is F***ing Awesome

Yes I have considered getting the arcade board to stick inside my MVS cab. I could get one for about $160 but I already got a Saturn copy for $25. Needless to say I love this game even more than some more higher profile shumps.

I'm all most inclined to agree with you on Darius Gaiden, but there are two things that barred the experience for me.

1. The crushing difficulty. Perhaps I need to brush up my skills, but this game just seems frustratingly difficult even on easy!!
2. The fact that you lose all your power ups when you lose a life. The game then forces you to start in a very difficult area with only beginner powerups.

That said, the atmosphere and music of the game is simply brilliant (BLUUE SKIIIIIES!!) and also are the boss and level designs. If you are a very good shmup player then you will definitely love this game.

I must commend you on completing it. I'm still struggling myself.

However, it would still be awesome to have a copy of Darius Alpha.

I do like me some Darius but curious, why Alpha? Cuz it's rare or you dig boss rushes?

Because I can brag to people that I have it (ie. rare).

Of course, if I had that... I'd need to get the Special Edition HuCards to go along with it. That might get... way too expensive for me!

I like it and even finished it once (did not 1 cc it though), but I would not say it is awesome. It is not that it is difficult, but that it is not balanced as well as it should be in my opinion. That is mostly due to the rank system they use I guess. I don't like it when games reward you for "playing bad on purpose" to "manage" the rank (in this case intentionally avoiding power-ups).

There are other harder games of the kind that do without rank (or at least don't increase the difficulty so much that makes you seriously consider dying on purpose).

The Darius series is amazing. I find it to be one of the best along with Thunderforce those are the 2 best running series IMO.

Daeius Gaiden is great. I love the change of pace from the gradius/rtype horis. Selecting your own path allows for great replay value.

The music is so good. If only I could turn down the sfx and bump those sweet tunes.

I would love a chance to try out Darius 2 on its 3-screen wide arcade

I love Darius. G-Darius was pretty much my reason for getting a ps1. Super Darius 2 on PC-engine is prob my favorite next to gaiden.

This topic got me looking at the Darius games on Wikipedia. Wow I had no idea there was Darius Burst on PSP in Japan. It looks awesome but $65 on ebay and Playasia? Ouch.......

At least I got a couple of the Darius game cheaply via the Taito collections.
