Sounds good. I might do this, but also see how much used slims are going for at the local pawn shop. It might not be a bad idea to use a slim as a primary (especially since the fat has been a bit loud while playing Blu Rays) and stretch out the longevity of the BC unit.CRTGAMER wrote:THISenv963 wrote:Do a repair through sony, i think its $150 for a new "refurbished" PS3, and you get the same model back from them. So you can keep your HDMI. I have a fat ps3 also, with some of the B/C features. (80GB motostorm pack to be exact) I wouldnt want to lose it for nothing.
The Sony repair is in Texas. You can do an even exchange for the exact same model or change to a slim. Not sure what the current price, but you get a refurbished one with a brand new shell. Sony will ship you the UPS tracked box free, well as part of the repair bill.

I would buy a new Slim PS3, and buy an actual PS2 for the PS2 games. PS2 has better compatibility than any of the PS3 models anyway, so might as well.

I was thinking about eventually getting a PS2 slim for my home office.BoringSupreez wrote:I would buy a new Slim PS3, and buy an actual PS2 for the PS2 games. PS2 has better compatibility than any of the PS3 models anyway, so might as well.
But there's just some PS2 games I'd like to play on a bigger screen.
This is when it become apparent that I invest more money in having just the right hardware setup than I do on building a big game library.

I think the PS3 slim might be more reliable due to maybe running cooler with the smaller board. For PS2 gaming the best way is with a PS2 Fat and HDAdvance/HDLoader.

I've done pretty much what's been suggested - I have an 80GB BC PS3, but replaced it in the living room with a Slim. It does kinda suck losing PS2 compatibility - my experience was that the PS3 over HDMI just gave nicer no-fuss results than my PS2 over component (correct aspect ratios n' such). Shared controllers are also nice.
The Slim is a better PS3 though, and a nicer Blu-ray player. Mostly due to heat/noise, though the actual bitstreaming of HD audio codecs is a small perk as well.
