yes
I used one of those for years (back when a PS1 was still new) but a few years ago I think it stopped working.

Are these things prone to failure? or know what fails?

? All ps1/2/3 have RGB coming out of the output already. Be sure to look for an official Sony Playtstation1/2/3 RGB Scart cable. (Good luck finding that! 8) )
I actually need a modded ps1 with a good laser and drive. Or anyway soemthing I can throw anything into imports and backup. I do not need PAL games to work. I only play ntsc-U/J ps1 games

Good to know there's some interest for modded ps1 systems. :D

If I can track down some mod chips maybe I can get something going.

I was hoping to trade away some of these systems to the game store to get a Sega Nomad or a Fat PS2 in its original box. :P So much for that!

I was thinking of pumping some life into my PS1 & possibly PS2 by modding them. What kind of mods can you do with them? I had my original Xbox modded and I love it so I was curious how it works w/ PS1 & PS2.
I am addicted to video games, especially retro gaming from my era. I have: NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, Gameboy, GBA, Wii, Sega Genesis, Sega CD, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, Xbox, and Xbox 360. I have probably over 1,000 games in total for all these systems combined. Yes, I need help and I wouldn't have it any other way! This is my passion and hey my wife still loves me!!

You can use the PSX to play all the imports. The grey PS1 is the easiest one to add a Mod Chip. The smaller white PSOne can be modded but the solder points are smaller. The PS2 is even tighter, but its reserved only for PS2 games installed on the hard drive. Flip Top allows installing of imports without a Mod Chip.

@ Mechblue The parallel port carts are solid. usually the fail is because of the connector contacts on the cart.

PS1 Game carts allow viewing game videos directly, among other tricks.

There's an overclock mod for the PS1? Does it improve in game frame rates?
