Re: Final Fantasy IV: The Complete Collection Review
I've only played The After Years in this collection, but from what I hear nothing has been altered from the Wii version to the PSP version other than visuals. I'm unsure what may have been changed when the game was ported over to Wii from 903i though. I can vouch for the PSP version being enjoyably challenging though.hashiriya1 wrote:I agree with bruno. I have played all versions of FFIV and this one seemed like a breeze. Not nearly as much grinding. I wonder if the After Years part is easier, too. I've only beaten the After Years game on my AU KDDI cellphone a few years back. I'll hop on the PSP version sometime soon. Perhaps I can report back on the differences between the mobile phone version and the PSP version other than the obvious graphical enhancements.
On the subject of Japanese mobile phone games, the GBA port was enhanced on mobile phones too. Supposedly this version corrects the issue with the ATB and brings back the original challenge. It has some other changes too but I'm not sure what they are. I know a lot of people were hoping that the PSP version was going to be based on the mobile phone version over the GBA one though.

Bumping this thread to ask:
Who would recommend the DS version over the PSP version? I read a thread on gamefaqs where Brunoafh was posting.
Not trying to start conflict, just wondering what version I should go for if I only play one. From what I read so far, it is basically PSP vs DS as the possibly best versions, but if someone else favours another port also feel free to defend your choice.

Most everyone on this forum will say the PSP version. It has the after years and the sprite graphics as opposed to the blocky 3d graphics of the DS.Ivo wrote:Bumping this thread to ask:

Yeah, PSP. More content and better graphics. It's really a no-brainer.
Re: Final Fantasy IV: The Complete Collection Review
From what I understand the PSP is best on graphics (although it is up to taste, the 3D ones probably don't suit the game nearly as much), content and perhaps being more faithful to the SNES original, but the DS could arguably have the upper hand on script, something to do with the party or the skills (never played it so I didn't understand exactly) and difficulty balance.Opa Opa wrote:Yeah, PSP. Those 3 "advantages" of the DS could also be considered further disadvantages depending on taste.
I'm inclined toward the PSP, personally, as I never played it... But I get the impression that for someone that already played the original, the DS version may feel fresher with more gameplay differences, improved (?) script and improved (?) difficulty balance?

Since you've never played it, you're in the same boat as me when I played it last year on the PSP and I enjoyed the hell out of it. Get the PSP one!Ivo wrote:I'm inclined toward the PSP, personally, as I never played it... Both have a ton of pros and very few cons, if it's viable I would try picking up both as FF4 is one of those games that you will want to play through every year or two so having a fresh take the next couple would be great experience. I almost wish I could go back and be in your position to play both for the first time again
