It's just as hard to deem a movie "worst ever made" as it is to claim a movie is "best ever made." It's very subjective on both ends of the spectrum.
In terms of "awful movies," the two major categories for me are "bad in a boring way" or "bad in an enjoyable way."
An Awful Movie Question
Re: An Awful Movie Question
Neither of them are as bad as Planet of the Dinosaurs. My brother and I showed them to our two sets of friends who love MST3K. It was so bad both of our groups of friends demanded we quit watching it not half way through.

Re: An Awful Movie Question
I can say without hesitation that "Glen or Glenda" is the best/worst film that Ed Wood created. It succeeds/fails on so many levels that its incompetence is simply staggering. At one point during the film, I noted that I was watching Bela Lugosi tell the story of another doctor telling the story of some people at a diner telling the story of a man who wore women's clothes. Also:Ack wrote:Huh, according to Wikipedia apparently someone's making a sequel to Manos.
I've yet to see it (not a big fan of Joel episodes on MST3K), but I have seen Plan 9. It's pretty terrible, but at times it manages to capture that campy B-movie feel, so Manos is probably the worse of the two.
For the record, Leonard Maltin considers Glen or Glenda to be a worse film than Plan 9 from Outer Space.

In any event, I find these good/bad movies to be much more entertaining than truly bad, dull, stupid-yet-nonetheless-pretentious films that aspire to something above camp - and in many instances, Academy Awards (see "My Name is David", "21 Grams", etc.).

Re: An Awful Movie Question
Since it is all subjective anyway...
Worst movie I was unable to finish watching was Doom Generation. I watched about 20 minutes or so, then started fast forwarding (VHS) and playing bits. It was so bad I didn't even finish fast forwarding through the movie. Terrible plot, terrible acting, and no redeeming factors that I could see.

I've seen both, but I've only seen Manos with the MST3K crew, so it didn't seem as bad. I imagine raw Manos is harder to watch though.

Manos is worse. Ed Wood may have been incompetent, but at least he had some experience. Manos was written/directed/starred in by a fertilizer salesman.
I happened to watch Manos last week. Been watching lots of MST3K recently. Usually fall asleep halfway through, heh.

Did you screen the Rifftrax version? Or just the movie itself? The Rifftrax is pretty good. As for the movie itself, it's poorly made but lacks the "what were they thinking!" bizarreness of something like Manos.Croooow! wrote:Neither of them are as bad as Planet of the Dinosaurs. Speaking of Ed Wood, I thought the biographical movie on him was pretty good. Johnny Depp was great in the role as Ed Wood.

This, and the fact that Plan 9 must have turned a profit over the years as a cult classic, where Manos would likely be well forgotten had it not been for MST3K uncovering it from obscurity.Manos is worse. Re: An Awful Movie Question
My mom bought us the original on VHS when we were kids and we watched it all of the time. We especially loved the line "This isn't Nebraska!" After seeing as many times as I have a lot of weird little things in the movie manifest themselves which still makes it fun to watch now. I've yet to see the Rifftrax but that is something I do need to pick up.Hatta wrote:Did you screen the Rifftrax version? Or just the movie itself? The Rifftrax is pretty good.
