Xbox(original, not 360) Mod
Re: Xbox(original, not 360) Mod
It's trivial. XBMC has a built in FTP server. Just put the xbox on the same subnet as your PC and use your favorite FTP client. WinSCP is a good one for Windows.

Not true. With an IDE to SATA adapter, the Xbox supports any SATA hard drive. (I've tested right up to 2TB currently.) No need to pay the premium on IDE drives!

The Xbox only supports IDE HDD natively. You need an adapter for SATA to work. Therefore my statement is still true.

The ftp server that comes with xbmc is good. Whatever you do, avoid the ftp server that is part of Evox (Evolution X) which stinks. I forget the details but I seem to recall having timeout/drop problems and wouldn't be able to transfer at a high rate.

Yeah, EvoX is a pretty crappy dashboard full stop. I preferred the much better (and more customisable) UnleashX.

I'm still using Avalaunch. Though the only thing I really use it for is launching XBMC.

Agreed! I think I have a 250gb in mine and it's basically always full. Mame, tv shows, and xbox games can eat a lot of space quick.

It's pretty easy, drag and drop pretty much. The dvd drive on my xbox was broken before I modded it so it's the only way I can put stuff on mine, works like a charm.

Why are you guys still using avalaunch/evox/etc as the dash? I've always used XBMC, can't stand how ugly and featureless the old dashes are. Are you finding some advantage to them that I'm not aware of?
Re: Xbox(original, not 360) Mod
Avalaunch was popular when I installed my hard mod, never bothered to go back and change it. XBMC does do pretty much everything.
There is one feature I'd keep Avalaunch around for though. I keep my games in folders that correspond to the name of the ISO they came from, this isn't always terribly descriptive. So when I'm using the XBMC file manager, I can't tell what game is in what folder unless I run it, at which point I have to reboot if I want to move/rename/delete it. In Avalaunch, the file manager promts me with the name of the game and asks if I want to run it. There I can just cancel and keep managing files.
It's a silly reason, and no reason to boot into Avalaunch by default. That's just laziness on my part. But I'd keep Avalaunch around if I were to configure XBMC as the dash.

In my case, evox is on the modchip so I have to deal with it for how ever long it takes me to put xbmc on the system.
